Summary
Red Hat Security Advisory: OpenShift Container Platform 4.13.72 bug fix and security update
Severity
Important
Notes
Topic: Red Hat OpenShift Container Platform release 4.13.72 is now available with updates to packages and images that fix several bugs and add enhancements. This release includes a security update for Red Hat OpenShift Container Platform 4.13. Red Hat Product Security has rated this update as having a security impact of Low. A Common Vulnerability Scoring System (CVSS) base score, which gives a detailed severity rating, is available for each vulnerability from the CVE link(s) in the References section.
Details: Red Hat OpenShift Container Platform is Red Hat's cloud computing Kubernetes application platform solution designed for on-premise or private cloud deployments. This advisory contains the container images for Red Hat OpenShift Container Platform 4.13.72. See the following advisory for the RPM packages for this release: https://access.redhat.com/errata/RHSA-2026:77319 Space precludes documenting all of the container images in this advisory. See the following Release Notes documentation, which will be updated shortly for this release, for details about these changes: https://docs.redhat.com/en/documentation/openshift_container_platform/4.13/html/release_notes Security Fix(es): None For more details about the security issue(s), including the impact, a CVSS score, acknowledgments, and other related information, refer to the CVE page(s) listed in the References section. All OpenShift Container Platform 4.13 users are advised to upgrade to these updated packages and images when they are available in the appropriate release channel. To check for available updates, use the OpenShift CLI (oc) or web console. Instructions for upgrading a cluster are available at https://docs.redhat.com/en/documentation/openshift_container_platform/4.13/html-single/updating_clusters/index#updating-cluster-within-minor.

A flaw was found in Samba’s vfs_worm module. The module is intended to provide write-once, read-many (WORM) protections by preventing modification of files after a configurable grace period. Due to insufficient validation during rename operations, an authenticated user with write access to a share could overwrite a protected file by renaming a newly created file over the existing WORM-protected file.

CWE-280 - Improper Handling of Insufficient Permissions or Privileges
Affected products
Product Identifier Version Remediation
Unresolved product id: 9Base-RHOSE-4.13:rhcos-x86_64-413.92.202609302032-0 —
Vendor Fix fix
Workaround
Threats
Impact Moderate

A flaw was found in Samba’s certificate auto-enrollment Group Policy handling. When certificate auto-enrollment is enabled, Samba may retrieve a CA certificate over an unencrypted HTTP connection and install it into the local trust store without proper verification. An attacker with the ability to intercept or redirect network traffic could exploit this behavior to supply a malicious certificate authority certificate, potentially allowing interception or spoofing of trusted communications.

CWE-345 - Insufficient Verification of Data Authenticity
Affected products
Fixed 1 product, the same list as for CVE-2026-2340
Threats
Impact Important

A flaw was found in libgnutls. A remote attacker, by sending an extremely short premaster secret during an RSA key exchange to a server using an RSA key backed by a PKCS#11 token, could trigger a short heap overread. This memory corruption vulnerability could lead to information disclosure.

CWE-126 - Buffer Over-read
Affected products
Fixed 1 product, the same list as for CVE-2026-2340
Threats
Impact Moderate

A flaw was found in the `acl` package, specifically within its `libacl` pathname-based functions. A local attacker could exploit this vulnerability by using a symbolic link to replace a pathname component. This could allow the attacker to redirect access control list (ACL) read or write operations to arbitrary files or directories, leading to unauthorized manipulation of ACLs and ultimately local privilege escalation.

CWE-59 - Improper Link Resolution Before File Access ('Link Following')
Affected products
Fixed 1 product, the same list as for CVE-2026-2340
Threats
Impact Important

A flaw was found in GLib. An off-by-one error can occur in the g_key_file_get_locale_string_list function in the gkeyfile.c file when loading a key file with an empty value. This flaw can cause an out-of-bounds access of 1 byte or a denial of service when the out-of-bounds access crosses a page boundary.

CWE-193 - Off-by-one Error
Affected products
Fixed 1 product, the same list as for CVE-2026-2340
Threats
Impact Moderate

A flaw was found in GLib. The D-Bus client-side implementation of the DBUS_COOKIE_SHA1 SASL authentication mechanism does not validate the cookie_context parameter received from the server. A malicious D-Bus server can supply a cookie_context containing path traversal sequences, causing the client to read an arbitrary file and exfiltrate sensitive data by verifying guessed file contents against a generated hash.

CWE-22 - Improper Limitation of a Pathname to a Restricted Directory ('Path Traversal')
Affected products
Fixed 1 product, the same list as for CVE-2026-2340
Threats
Impact Moderate

A flaw was found in the Stream Control Transmission Protocol (SCTP) implementation within the Linux kernel. An integer overflow occurs when the `transport_count` for an association exceeds its 16-bit limit, causing it to wrap around to zero. This allows a diagnostic dump to write 8 MiB of peer addresses beyond the intended memory buffer, leading to an out-of-bounds write. This memory corruption can result in a denial of service (DoS) due to system instability or crashes.

CWE-787 - Out-of-bounds Write
Affected products
Fixed 1 product, the same list as for CVE-2026-2340
Threats
Impact Low

A flaw was found in the Linux kernel's xfrm subsystem, specifically within the AH6 (Authentication Header for IPv6) module. The `ipv6_rearrange_rthdr()` function does not properly validate the `segments_left` field in routing headers when processing raw IPv6 HDRINCL packets. This oversight allows an attacker to craft a malicious packet that can cause an out-of-bounds memory access, potentially leading to memory corruption.

CWE-805 - Buffer Access with Incorrect Length Value
Affected products
Fixed 1 product, the same list as for CVE-2026-2340
Threats
Impact Low

A flaw was found in the Linux kernel's TUN/TAP driver. An integer underflow vulnerability exists in the tun_get_user() function when processing oversized headroom requests. This can occur if Open vSwitch (OVS) propagates an excessively large headroom request to the TUN or TAP device. Successful exploitation could lead to memory corruption, where network packet data is written outside its intended buffer, potentially causing a denial of service or other system instability.

CWE-787 - Out-of-bounds Write
Affected products
Fixed 1 product, the same list as for CVE-2026-2340
Threats
Impact Low

Exploitation requires local access with the ability to create symlinks in a directory that a privileged program later processes with acl_get_file() or acl_set_file(). In default RHEL and OpenShift CoreOS configurations, standard file permission settings limit where unprivileged users can create symlinks, reducing the practical attack surface. Drag nodes to arrange them. Double-click a related vulnerability to open it, or a source to visit its link. The Physics button on the left tunes the layout and the simulation; the legend at the bottom left hides or shows nodes by kind and by sighting type.

Forecast uses a logistic model when the trend is rising, or an exponential decay model when the trend is falling. Fitted via linearized least squares.

    Related by attack behaviour

Vulnerabilities whose description is nearest to this one in the vector space of the CIRCL/vulnerability-attack-technique-biencoder model. This is a similarity search over the bi-encoder space (plain cosine), not a classification, and it has no measured accuracy.
