Title
NLTK before 3.10.3 Denial of Service via Uncontrolled Recursion
Summary
NLTK before 3.10.3 contains an uncontrolled recursion vulnerability in nltk.featstruct.FeatStructReader that allows unauthenticated attackers to cause a denial of service by supplying deeply nested feature-structure input. Attackers can craft trivial payloads with nested brackets that exceed Python's recursion limit and raise an unhandled RecursionError, crashing applications that parse user-supplied feature structures or feature grammars.

CVE-2026-78228 (GCVE-0-2026-78228)

Title
Unbounded handle_error recursion enables denial of service in AshOban triggers
Summary
Uncontrolled Recursion vulnerability in ash-project ash_oban allows a user who can drive a trigger's on_error action to fail on the final attempt to exhaust worker CPU and memory, denying service. The generated worker's atomic handle_error/4 runs the trigger's on_error action on a job's final attempt inside a rescue that, when the action itself raises, calls handle_error/4 again with the same job. The job's attempt still equals max_attempts, so it re-enters the same clause and re-runs the failing action, with no exit. Any deterministic on_error failure (a data-layer outage, a misconfigured action, or a record the action rejects) loops forever; because the recursive call is not in tail position, each iteration retains a formatted stacktrace and the process heap grows without bound while the failing statement is re-issued against the data layer until the runtime kills the worker. This issue affects ash_oban: from 0.8.0-rc.1 before 0.8.14.

Title
Mistune has Denial of Service — RecursionError via Excessive Emphasis Markers in Markdown
Summary
Mistune is a Python Markdown parser with renderers and plugins. Versions 3.3.0 through 3.3.2 are vulnerable to DoS through deeply nested tokens. HTML rendering creates deeply nested emphasis tokens from consecutive asterisk characters, and recursive rendering in HTMLRenderer.render_token() can exceed Python's recursion limit and raise RecursionError, allowing crafted Markdown to crash a parsing process. This issue is fixed in version 3.3.3

Title
Unbounded recursion between Inspect.List charlist rendering and List.to_string/1 error path in Elixir
Summary
Uncontrolled Recursion vulnerability in the Elixir standard library allows an attacker who controls a list passed to inspect/1, List.to_string/1, or List.to_charlist/1 to exhaust a BEAM node's memory. Inspect.List's charlist branch in lib/elixir/lib/inspect.ex classifies a list as a charlist using List.ascii_printable?/2, which examines only the first :printable_limit (4096 by default) elements, and then calls IO.chardata_to_string/1 on the whole term. A list whose printable prefix exceeds that limit but which contains a later element that is not a code point (an atom, an out-of-range integer, or an improper tail) is therefore mis-classified, and the conversion raises ArgumentError. That conversion runs inside List.to_string/1, whose rescue clause builds its message by interpolating inspect(list), which re-enters the same branch and raises again. The nested inspection is an argument to raise, so the recursion is not in tail position and every level is retained: the process stack grows monotonically while each cycle re-walks the list, until the process is killed by max_heap_size or, by default, the node runs out of memory. List.to_charlist/1 has the same rescue shape. Below the printable limit the inner inspect/1 sees the invalid element within its counter and renders the list in ordinary bracket form, so a single ArgumentError is raised and no recursion occurs. This issue affects elixir: from 1.15.0-rc.0 before 1.18.5, from 1.19.0-rc.0 before 1.19.6, and from 1.20.0-rc.0 before 1.20.4.

CVE-2026-74795 (GCVE-0-2026-74795)

Vulnerability from cvelistv5 – Published: 2026-08-16 13:14 – Updated: 2026-08-17 16:04
VLAI
Title
Scriban before 6.6.0 Denial of Service via Uncontrolled Recursion
Summary
Scriban before 6.6.0 contains an uncontrolled recursion vulnerability in its recursive-descent parser. The parser does not enforce a default expression depth limit (the ExpressionDepthLimit property in ParserOptions defaults to null/disabled), so an attacker who controls template input can supply a deeply nested template (e.g., thousands of nested parentheses or blocks) that exhausts thread stack space and raises a StackOverflowException. Because a StackOverflowException cannot be caught in .NET, this causes immediate, unrecoverable termination of the hosting process, resulting in a denial of service. Applications that process untrusted or user-supplied templates can be exploited remotely without authentication.

Title
Scriban before 6.6.0 Denial of Service via Infinite Recursion
Summary
Scriban before 6.6.0 contains an infinite recursion vulnerability in object rendering when the ObjectRecursionLimit property defaults to unlimited. Attackers can supply circular reference objects to the template context, exhausting stack space and triggering an uncatchable StackOverflowException that terminates the hosting process.

Scriban before 7.0.0 Stack Overflow via nested array initializers
Summary
Scriban before 7.0.0 (affected versions <= 6.6.0) contains a stack overflow vulnerability in nested array initializer parsing. Deeply nested array initializers recurse through a path (ParseArrayInitializer → ParseExpression → ParseArrayInitializer) that is not covered by the ExpressionDepthLimit counter added in the fix for GHSA-wgh7-7m3c-fx25. An attacker who can supply untrusted input to Template.Parse can trigger an uncatchable StackOverflowException that immediately terminates the process, even with the default ExpressionDepthLimit enabled.

Title
Scriban before 7.0.0 Uncontrolled Recursion via object.to_json
Summary
Scriban before 7.0.0 contains an uncontrolled recursion vulnerability in the object.to_json builtin function that lacks depth limits and circular reference detection. Attackers can craft templates with self-referencing objects to trigger unbounded recursion, causing a StackOverflowException that fatally terminates the hosting .NET process.

Mitigation
Implementation

Ensure that an end condition will be reached under all logic conditions. The end condition may include checking against the depth of recursion and exiting with an error if the recursion goes too deep. The complexity of the end condition contributes to the effectiveness of this action.

Mitigation
Implementation

Increase the stack size.

CAPEC-230: Serialized Data with Nested Payloads

Applications often need to transform data in and out of a data format (e.g., XML and YAML) by using a parser. It may be possible for an adversary to inject data that may have an adverse effect on the parser when it is being processed. Many data format languages allow the definition of macro-like structures that can be used to simplify the creation of complex structures. By nesting these structures, causing the data to be repeatedly substituted, an adversary can cause the parser to consume more resources while processing, causing excessive memory consumption and CPU utilization.

CAPEC-231: Oversized Serialized Data Payloads

An adversary injects oversized serialized data payloads into a parser during data processing to produce adverse effects upon the parser such as exhausting system resources and arbitrary code execution.
