Vulnerability from csaf_suse - Published: 2026-10-09 12:13 - Updated: 2026-10-15 17:14Summary
Security update for python-PyJWT
Severity
Important
Notes
Title of the patch: Security update for python-PyJWT
Description of the patch: This update for python-PyJWT fixes the following issues:
- CVE-2026-101917: attacker traffic can amplify outbound requests to the configured JWKS endpoint (bsc#1283060).
- CVE-2026-101918: unauthenticated request can raise an exception that may produce an HTTP 500 response (bsc#1283061).
- CVE-2026-102267: forwarded credentials may be disclosed or verification keys may be substituted (bsc#1283064).
- CVE-2026-102268: an attacker who knows the public key can forge authenticated HMAC tokens (bsc#1283065).
- CVE-2026-102269: raw-token revocation checks can fail to recognize an equivalent modified token (bsc#1283066).
- CVE-2026-102270: an attacker can cause intensive CPU consumption (bsc#1283067).
- CVE-2026-102271: an attacker who knows the public key can forge authenticated HMAC tokens (bsc#1283068).
- CVE-2026-102274: Malformed RSA JWK aborts parsing of an entire JWK Set (bsc#1283071).
- CVE-2026-102275: an attacker may use a stolen sender-constrained token without the legitimate private key
(bsc#1283072).
- CVE-2026-103001: reused mutable options mapping can cause verification checks bypass on subsequent decode calls
(bsc#1283829).

"text": "PyJWT is a Python implementation of JSON Web Token standards. Prior to 2.14.0, PyJWT get_signing_key_from_jwt is affected because unknown kid misses force refreshes without a negative cache or minimum refresh interval. This occurs when unauthenticated tokens repeatedly use the same unknown kid or varying kid values absent from the cached JWKS. As a result, each cache miss causes PyJWKClient to refresh the JWKS. Consequently, attacker traffic can amplify outbound requests to the configured JWKS endpoint. This issue is fixed in version 2.14.0.",

"text": "PyJWT is a Python implementation of JSON Web Token standards. From 2.0.0a1 until 2.15.0, PyJWT PyJWKClient.get_signing_key_from_jwt is affected because payload parser catches ValueError but not RecursionError. This occurs when an attacker-controlled recursively nested payload reaches json.loads. As a result, documented PyJWT exception handling does not contain the failure. Consequently, an unauthenticated request can raise an exception that may produce an HTTP 500 response. The advisory-defined affected implementation also includes jwt/api_jwt.py, verify_signature=False. This issue is fixed in version 2.15.0.",

"text": "PyJWT is a Python implementation of JSON Web Token standards. Prior to 2.14.0, PyJWT is_pem_format is affected because lazy PEM regular expression backtracks extensively. This occurs when a certificate-like input contains repeated BEGIN markers without a matching END marker. As a result, is_pem_format performs unbounded backtracking while searching for a PEM end marker. Consequently, an attacker can cause intensive CPU consumption. This issue is fixed in version 2.14.0.",

From 2.4.0 until 2.14.0, PyJWT HMACAlgorithm.prepare_key is affected because asymmetric-key guard relies on textual markers that are absent from DER encoding. This occurs when an application mixes HMAC and asymmetric algorithms and supplies a DER public key as the shared verification key. As a result, PyJWT uses public DER bytes as an HMAC secret. From 2.1.0 until 2.15.0, PyJWT OKPAlgorithm.from_jwk in jwt/algorithms.py is affected because private-JWK import path does not compare the public key derived from d with x. "text": "PyJWT is a Python implementation of JSON Web Token standards. From 2.11.0 through 2.13.0, PyJWT\u0027s PyJWT._merge_options() method can modify a caller-supplied mutable options mapping when verify_signature is false. If an application reuses that same mapping for a later decode() or decode_complete() call and changes verify_signature to true, the mapping can retain false values for expiration, not-before, issued-at, audience, issuer, subject, and JWT ID checks. A signed token with invalid registered claims can then be accepted without disabling signature verification, but applications that create a fresh options mapping for each call are not affected.",

Drag nodes to arrange them. Double-click a related vulnerability to open it, or a source to visit its link. The Physics button on the left tunes the layout and the simulation; the legend at the bottom left hides or shows nodes by kind and by sighting type.
Experimental. This forecast is provided for visualization only and may change without notice. Do not use it for operational decisions.
Forecast uses a logistic model when the trend is rising, or an exponential decay model when the trend is falling. Fitted via linearized least squares.

The MITRE ATT&CK techniques below are AI-generated suggestions, inferred from the description of the
vulnerability by the CIRCL/vulnerability-attack-technique-classification-roberta-base
model, served locally by ML-Gateway.
They have not been verified by an analyst and are provided for guidance only.
The approach is described in our paper Mapping CVEs to MITRE ATT&CK Techniques: A Curated Gold-Set Classifier and the Limits of LLM-Assisted Label Expansion.

Vulnerabilities whose description is nearest to this one in the vector space of the CIRCL/vulnerability-attack-technique-biencoder model. This is a similarity search over the bi-encoder space (plain cosine), not a classification, and it has no measured accuracy.
