Vulnerability from github – Published: 2025-04-02 15:31 – Updated: 2025-11-03 21:33
VLAI
Details

In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved:

iscsi_ibft: Fix UBSAN shift-out-of-bounds warning in ibft_attr_show_nic()

When performing an iSCSI boot using IPv6, iscsistart still reads the /sys/firmware/ibft/ethernetX/subnet-mask entry. Since the IPv6 prefix length is 64, this causes the shift exponent to become negative, triggering a UBSAN warning. As the concept of a subnet mask does not apply to IPv6, the value is set to ~0 to suppress the warning message.

Vulnerability from github – Published: 2026-06-19 15:33 – Updated: 2026-06-30 03:37

Details

In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved:

bpf: Free reuseport cBPF prog after RCU grace period.

Eulgyu Kim reported the splat below with a repro. [0]

The repro sets up a UDP reuseport group with a cBPF prog and replaces it with a new one while another thread is sending a UDP packet to the group.

The reuseport prog is freed by sk_reuseport_prog_free(). bpf_prog_put() is called for "e"BPF prog to destruct through multiple stages while cBPF prog is freed immediately by bpf_release_orig_filter() and bpf_prog_free().

If a reuseport prog is detached from the setsockopt() path (reuseport_attach_prog() or reuseport_detach_prog()), sk_reuseport_prog_free() is called without waiting for RCU readers to complete, resulting in various bugs.

Let's defer freeing the reuseport cBPF prog after one RCU grace period.

Note "e"BPF prog is safe as is unless the fast path starts to touch fields destroyed in bpf_prog_put_deferred() and __bpf_prog_put_noref().

GHSA-GJ5G-VM2W-QCMJ

Vulnerability from github – Published: 2025-05-15 18:31 – Updated: 2025-05-20 18:30
VLAI
Details

There is a memory corruption vulnerability due to an out of bounds read in Bitmap::InternalDraw() when using the SymbolEditor in NI Circuit Design Suite.  This vulnerability may result in information disclosure or arbitrary code execution. Successful exploitation requires an attacker to get a user to open a specially crafted .sym file. This vulnerability affects NI Circuit Design Suite 14.3.0 and prior versions.

Mitigation MIT-5
Implementation

Strategy: Input Validation

  • Assume all input is malicious. Use an "accept known good" input validation strategy, i.e., use a list of acceptable inputs that strictly conform to specifications. Reject any input that does not strictly conform to specifications, or transform it into something that does.
  • When performing input validation, consider all potentially relevant properties, including length, type of input, the full range of acceptable values, missing or extra inputs, syntax, consistency across related fields, and conformance to business rules. As an example of business rule logic, "boat" may be syntactically valid because it only contains alphanumeric characters, but it is not valid if the input is only expected to contain colors such as "red" or "blue."
  • Do not rely exclusively on looking for malicious or malformed inputs. This is likely to miss at least one undesirable input, especially if the code's environment changes. This can give attackers enough room to bypass the intended validation. However, denylists can be useful for detecting potential attacks or determining which inputs are so malformed that they should be rejected outright.
  • To reduce the likelihood of introducing an out-of-bounds read, ensure that you validate and ensure correct calculations for any length argument, buffer size calculation, or offset. Be especially careful of relying on a sentinel (i.e. special character such as NUL) in untrusted inputs.
Mitigation
Architecture and Design

Strategy: Language Selection

Use a language that provides appropriate memory abstractions.

CAPEC-540: Overread Buffers

An adversary attacks a target by providing input that causes an application to read beyond the boundary of a defined buffer. This typically occurs when a value influencing where to start or stop reading is set to reflect positions outside of the valid memory location of the buffer. This type of attack may result in exposure of sensitive information, a system crash, or arbitrary code execution.
