Reliance on Obfuscation or Encryption of Security-Relevant Inputs without Integrity Checking

Abstraction: Base · Status: Incomplete

The product uses obfuscation or encryption of inputs that should not be mutable by an external actor, but the product does not use integrity checks to detect if those inputs have been modified.

Title
ZITADEL before 4.17.3 Session Hijacking via Forgeable IdP Intent Tokens
Summary
ZITADEL 4.x before 4.17.3 and 3.x through 3.4.15 protects IdP intent tokens with unauthenticated, malleable encryption, allowing authenticated users to tamper with their own token so it is accepted for another user's external login intent. An attacker who predicts a victim's in-flight intent identifier and wins a timing race can call /v2/idp_intents or /v2/sessions to steal the victim's IdP tokens or hijack their session.

CVE-2026-95105 (GCVE-0-2026-95105)

Vulnerability from cvelistv5 – Published: 2026-10-06 08:37 – Updated: 2026-10-06 11:40

Title
Cloak AES-CTR cipher lacks ciphertext authentication, allowing chosen-plaintext forgery by bit flipping
Summary
Reliance on Obfuscation or Encryption of Security-Relevant Inputs without Integrity Checking vulnerability in danielberkompas cloak allows an attacker with write access to stored ciphertext to make it decrypt to a chosen value via bit flipping. Cloak.Ciphers.AES.CTR encrypts with AES-256 in CTR mode and stores the key tag, the IV and the ciphertext with no MAC. decrypt/2 checks only the key tag and the minimum length before it returns the plaintext, and Cloak.Ciphers.Deprecated.AES.CTR decrypts the legacy format the same way. CTR is a stream cipher, so a value XORed into the stored ciphertext is XORed into the plaintext at the same offset. An attacker who can write to the encrypted store (for example through SQL injection or a compromised replica) and who knows or can guess a stored plaintext can replace it with any value of the same length. The application receives that value with no error. This issue affects cloak: from 0.1.0-pre onward.

Details

Reliance on obfuscation or encryption of security-relevant inputs without integrity checking issue exists in "FreeFrom - the nostr client" App versions prior to 1.3.5 for Android and iOS. If this vulnerability is exploited, the content of direct messages (DMs) between users may be manipulated by a man-in-the-middle attack.

GHSA-HXQ7-6HM2-6WVG

Vulnerability from github – Published: 2026-10-06 09:31 – Updated: 2026-10-06 09:31
VLAI
Details

Mitigation
Architecture and Design

Protect important client controllable tokens/parameters for integrity using PKI methods (i.e. digital signatures) or other means, and checks for integrity on the server side.

Mitigation
Architecture and Design

Repeated requests from a particular user that include invalid values of tokens/parameters (those that should not be changed manually by users) should result in the user account lockout.

Mitigation
Architecture and Design

Client side tokens/parameters should not be such that it would be easy/predictable to guess another valid state.

Mitigation
Architecture and Design

Obfuscation should not be relied upon. If encryption is used, it needs to be properly applied (i.e. proven algorithm and implementation, use padding, use random initialization vector, user proper encryption mode). Even with proper encryption where the ciphertext does not leak information about the plaintext or reveal its structure, compromising integrity is possible (although less likely) without the provision of the integrity service.

CAPEC-463: Padding Oracle Crypto Attack

An adversary is able to efficiently decrypt data without knowing the decryption key if a target system leaks data on whether or not a padding error happened while decrypting the ciphertext. A target system that leaks this type of information becomes the padding oracle and an adversary is able to make use of that oracle to efficiently decrypt data without knowing the decryption key by issuing on average 128*b calls to the padding oracle (where b is the number of bytes in the ciphertext block). In addition to performing decryption, an adversary is also able to produce valid ciphertexts (i.e., perform encryption) by using the padding oracle, all without knowing the encryption key.
