Title
Expat Out-of-Bounds Read via dtdCopy
Summary
Expat through 2.8.3 contains an out-of-bounds read vulnerability that allows attackers to trigger memory corruption by processing XML with external entity parsers created via XML_ExternalEntityParserCreate. A struct size mismatch between ELEMENT_TYPE members causes storeAtts to read the attIndex member past allocated memory boundaries, resulting in failure to normalize whitespace in non-CDATA attributes or a wild pointer dereference causing a segfault. This vulnerability was introduced by the fix for CVE-2026-66046.

Title
libmodplug <= 0.8.9.1 - Out-of-Bounds Read in pat_smplooped via Crafted MIDI File
Summary
libmodplug through 0.8.9.1 contains an out-of-bounds read in pat_smplooped in src/load_pat.cpp. The function validates only the upper bound of its sample index against MAXSMP and then subtracts one before indexing the 191-byte static array pat_loops, so an index of zero reads pat_loops[-1], one byte before the array. The index is the smpno field of a parsed MIDI event, which is initialised to zero and only later overwritten from a program-change parameter, so an event reaching the note test before an instrument is assigned carries zero. A 32-byte MIDI file supplied to the library's public ModPlug_Load entry point drives the path through CSoundFile::Create, CSoundFile::ReadMID, and MID_ReadPatterns to the read. The byte read out of bounds determines whether a note event is treated as looping, so adjacent static storage influences playback state.

Title
Swtpm: swtpm: out-of-bounds read in swtpm_nvram_checkheader due to sizeof(pointer) vs sizeof(struct) mismatch
Summary
An out-of-bounds read vulnerability was found in swtpm's SWTPM_NVRAM_CheckHeader() function. The entry guard checks the buffer length against sizeof(bh), where bh is a pointer, instead of sizeof(*bh), the actual struct size. This allows an undersized buffer to pass validation, causing a 2-byte heap overread on 64-bit systems (6 bytes on 32-bit) when accessing the totlen field. This may cause daemon termination on some platforms and leaks heap data to the log.

Title
FFmpeg Out-of-Bounds Read in AV1 RTP Packetizer via rtpenc_av1.c
Summary
FFmpeg before commit 983dae9 contains an out-of-bounds read in the AV1 RTP packetizer (libavformat/rtpenc_av1.c). The keyframe detection loop that searches for a sequence header OBU advanced its pointer and remaining-size counter by the encoded header length plus the OBU payload size without first bounding the OBU size against the remaining data. A crafted OBU size causes the remaining-size counter to wrap to a positive value, causing the next loop iteration to dereference a pointer beyond the end of the packet buffer. A crafted AV1 input packet muxed to RTP triggers the out-of-bounds read.

Title
FFmpeg Out-of-Bounds Read in DASH Demuxer via dashdec.c
Summary
FFmpeg before commit 65b0dab contains an out-of-bounds read in the DASH demuxer (libavformat/dashdec.c). When a live DASH manifest is refreshed with a startNumber that is lower than the previous value, the current sequence number is driven negative. The fragment retrieval function checked only the upper bound before indexing the fragments array, allowing a negative index to be used and causing an out-of-bounds read. A malicious or misconfigured DASH server can trigger this by serving a live manifest with a decreasing startNumber across a manifest refresh.

Title
Bluez: bluez: out-of-bounds read in avrcp parse_media_element and parse_media_folder
Summary
A flaw was found in BlueZ. Insufficient validation of packet length fields in GetFolderItems responses within the Audio/Video Remote Control Profile (AVRCP) implementation allows a malicious Bluetooth device within range to cause an out-of-bounds memory read. This vulnerability, affecting the parse_media_element() and parse_media_folder() functions, can lead to a crash of the bluetoothd daemon, resulting in a Denial of Service (DoS). It could also potentially expose sensitive heap memory contents. Exploitation requires user interaction to pair with the malicious device.

Title
TIER IV Nebula 1.2.0 Heap Out-of-Bounds Read via VLP32 UDP Decoder
Summary
TIER IV Nebula through 1.2.0 contains an out-of-bounds read vulnerability in the Vlp32Decoder::unpack() function that allows unauthenticated remote attackers to cause the decoder to read past the end of a received UDP buffer into adjacent heap memory by sending a short UDP datagram. Attackers can send a malformed datagram to the Velodyne UDP sensor port, which lacks sender-address restrictions present in other drivers, causing fabricated points derived from heap memory contents to be silently published into downstream PointCloud2 messages consumed by Autoware nodes.

Title
Sblim-sfcb: unsafe deserialization in sblim-sfcb provider-manager ipc allows out-of-bounds memory access via malformed operationhdr
Summary
A flaw was found in sblim-sfcb. A local attacker with access to the system can exploit an unsafe deserialization vulnerability in the provider-manager's inter-process communication (IPC) message parsing. By sending a specially crafted message, the attacker can cause out-of-bounds memory access, leading to the termination of the provider-manager process and a denial of service. This could also potentially result in limited unintended information disclosure.

A local attacker with access to the system can exploit an unsafe deserialization vulnerability in the provider-manager\u0027s inter-process communication (IPC) message parsing. By sending a specially crafted message, the attacker can cause out-of-bounds memory access, leading to the termination of the provider-manager process and a denial of service. This could also potentially result in limited unintended information disclosure."

Deployments where only trusted users can reach this socket will have materially reduced exposure. Consult your system\u0027s documentation for appropriate methods to secure local IPC channels and socket permissions for the `sblim-sfcb` service. A restart of the `sfcbd` service may be required for changes to take effect, which could temporarily disrupt services relying on `sblim-sfcb`."

Mitigation MIT-5
Implementation
Strategy: Input Validation
- Assume all input is malicious. Use an "accept known good" input validation strategy, i.e., use a list of acceptable inputs that strictly conform to specifications. Reject any input that does not strictly conform to specifications, or transform it into something that does.
- When performing input validation, consider all potentially relevant properties, including length, type of input, the full range of acceptable values, missing or extra inputs, syntax, consistency across related fields, and conformance to business rules. As an example of business rule logic, "boat" may be syntactically valid because it only contains alphanumeric characters, but it is not valid if the input is only expected to contain colors such as "red" or "blue."
- Do not rely exclusively on looking for malicious or malformed inputs. This is likely to miss at least one undesirable input, especially if the code's environment changes. This can give attackers enough room to bypass the intended validation. However, denylists can be useful for detecting potential attacks or determining which inputs are so malformed that they should be rejected outright.
- To reduce the likelihood of introducing an out-of-bounds read, ensure that you validate and ensure correct calculations for any length argument, buffer size calculation, or offset. Be especially careful of relying on a sentinel (i.e. special character such as NUL) in untrusted inputs.
Mitigation
Architecture and Design
Strategy: Language Selection
Use a language that provides appropriate memory abstractions.
CAPEC-540: Overread Buffers
An adversary attacks a target by providing input that causes an application to read beyond the boundary of a defined buffer. This typically occurs when a value influencing where to start or stop reading is set to reflect positions outside of the valid memory location of the buffer. This type of attack may result in exposure of sensitive information, a system crash, or arbitrary code execution.
