Dieser Fehler besteht aufgrund einer fehlenden ordnungsgemäßen Validierung und Größenbeschränkung der Subject Alternative Name (SAN)-Liste bei der TLS-Zertifikatsbehandlung von K3s. Durch das kontinuierliche Hinzufügen von Einträgen zur SAN-Liste während eines TLS-Handshakes, bis das Zertifikat übermäßig groß wird, kann ein entfernter, anonymer Angreifer diese Schwachstelle ausnutzen, um einen Denial-of-Service-Zustand zu verursachen.
