AV:N - The bug is in the SCTP packet input path (`sctp_rcv` → `sctp_inq_push` → `sctp_assoc_bh_rcv` → `sctp_inq_pop`), processing chunk data supplied by a peer over IP; the vulnerable component is bound to the network stack and is driven entirely by received SCTP packets, including from a container/veth peer on the other side of a security boundary.
AC:L - The trigger is a re-read of `skb_shinfo(skb)->frag_list` on a shared/cloned GSO skb, and the attacker controls both sides — generating the large GSO SCTP packets and the concurrent clone/consumer that mutates the shared shinfo — which is exactly the pattern syzbot reproduced for the sibling bug in the same lines of `sctp_inq_pop()`.
PR:N - `sctp_inq_pop()` runs before any chunk is validated by the state machine — OOTB packets and INIT chunks from a completely unauthenticated peer reach it, and no capability or credential check exists anywhere on the `sctp_rcv()` path.
UI:N - Processing happens automatically in softirq/backlog context as soon as the packets are received; no victim action of any kind is needed.
S:U - The NULL dereference faults inside the kernel's own SCTP receive processing; no hypervisor, IOMMU, or sandbox boundary is crossed.
C:N - The fault is a read of an unmapped low address (`NULL->dev`) that immediately oopses; no attacker-controlled memory is read back or returned to userspace.
I:N - Nothing is written — the bug is a read of a NULL pointer field, so no kernel memory is modified and no control-flow hijack primitive is produced.
A:H - The path first hits `WARN_ON()` (an immediate panic on `panic_on_warn=1` systems, common on hardened/cloud kernels) and then dereferences NULL, producing a kernel oops in softirq/backlog context that kills SCTP receive processing and typically brings down the machine; it is repeatable by simply resending traffic."

If allocated memory contains
only zeros, then everything will work pretty fine.
But if the allocated memory contains the "garbage", then
it can affect the bitmap operations and it triggers
the reported issue.

This patch simply exchanges the kmalloc() on kzalloc()
with the goal to guarantee the correctness of bitmap operations.
Because, newly created allocation bitmap should have all
available blocks free. Potentially, initialization bitmap's read
operation could not fill the whole allocated memory and
"garbage" in the not initialized memory will be the reason of
volume coruptions and file system driver bugs.
en
AV:L - The vulnerable code is reached only by mounting an HFS block device or image locally and then issuing ordinary file syscalls (ftruncate/write) against it, as in the syzbot trace via `__x64_sys_ftruncate`. There is no network, adjacent-network, or remote-peer data path into `hfs_mdb_get()` or `hfs_find_set_zero_bits()`; local mounting of attacker-supplied media is routine via udisks2/automount, loop devices, and fstab `user` entries.
AC:L - `kmalloc(8192)` never zeroes and the disk read only covers `(fs_ablocks + 8) / 8` bytes, so on every mount the tail of the bitmap object is stale slab data — the vulnerable state exists unconditionally, with no race and no memory-layout luck. Every remaining precondition is attacker-authored on-disk metadata (`drNmAlBlks`, `drClpSiz`, extent `block`/`count` feeding `goal`), the residual slab contents are groomable with standard heap-spray techniques, and the syzbot reproducer triggers it reliably.
PR:L - hfs is registered `FS_REQUIRES_DEV` without `FS_USERNS_MOUNT`, so the mount step needs `CAP_SYS_ADMIN` in the initial namespace and is not obtainable via `unshare -Ur`; however, once a privileged automounter such as udisks2 has mounted the removable volume, an ordinary unprivileged local user drives the entire `hfs_inode_setattr → hfs_file_truncate → hfs_get_block → hfs_extend_file → hfs_vbm_search_free` path with a plain `ftruncate()`/`write()`, with no capability check anywhere along it.
UI:N - In the removable-media/udisks2 automount scenario the crafted HFS volume is mounted without any deliberate victim action, and the trigger itself is a normal file truncate or write performed by the attacker on their own image. No action by another user or administrator is required.
S:U - The uninitialized-memory consumption, the out-of-bounds slab access at the tail of the bitmap object, and any resulting fault all occur inside the host kernel's own security authority. No VM, hypervisor, IOMMU, or sandbox boundary is crossed.
C:H - Stale kmalloc'd slab contents — potentially remnants of any prior 8 KiB kernel allocation — are consumed directly as volume allocation state and steer which blocks are handed out; the resulting run lengths and extents are persisted into on-disk metadata the attacker can read back, forming an oracle for leaked heap bytes. Because `goal` from on-disk extents is unvalidated against `fs_ablocks`, the search can also produce extents pointing past the end of the volume, causing `hfs_get_block`/`map_bh` to read device sectors outside the filesystem, and the tail write-back reads a `__be32` past the end of the kmalloc-8k object.
I:H - The garbage bits drive `hfs_find_set_zero_bits()` to mark uninitialized regions "used" and return `*num_bits` exceeding the volume, underflowing `HFS_SB(sb)->free_ablocks -= *num_bits` (u32) to a huge value and installing extent records that extend past the volume end, which subsequent writes then commit to sectors outside the filesystem — exactly the "volume corruptions" the fix author cites. At the 64 K-bit boundary the `*curr = cpu_to_be32(n)` store at `done:` performs a 4-byte out-of-bounds read-modify-write on the slab object adjacent to the 8192-byte bitmap allocation, which per the OOB-write guidance is High.
A:H - Consuming uninitialized memory as filesystem allocation state yields the reported KMSAN uninit-value bug plus a slab out-of-bounds access that trips KASAN/panics on hardened kernels, corrupted `free_ablocks` accounting, and extents referencing sectors beyond the volume that drive the block layer into repeated I/O failure. A persistent crafted volume retriggers the condition on every file-extension operation, at will.
AV:L - The defect is only reachable by mounting an attacker-authored HFS+ block device or image locally and then issuing ordinary file syscalls (read/write/unlink) against it; there is no network, adjacent-network, or remote-peer data path into hfsplus_get_block() or hfs_brec_find(). Local mounting of attacker-supplied images is routinely available via udisks2/automount, loop devices, and fstab `user` entries.
AC:L - Every precondition comes from attacker-authored on-disk metadata: setting vhdr->next_cnid to 0 deterministically yields inode->i_ino == 0 so the cnid comparison matches, and an extents b-tree header with root == 0 (or an index node with a zero record offset) deterministically forces the uninitialized-field return path; the residual uninitialized slab/stack values are groomable from userspace with standard techniques and the syzbot reproducer triggers the bug reliably with no race or uncontrollable condition.
PR:L - hfsplus is registered FS_REQUIRES_DEV without FS_USERNS_MOUNT, so the mount itself needs CAP_SYS_ADMIN in the initial namespace and is not obtainable via unshare -Ur; however, once a privileged automounter such as udisks2 has mounted the removable volume, an ordinary unprivileged local user drives the entire hfsplus_get_block → hfsplus_file_extend → __hfsplus_ext_read_extent path with a plain write(), with no capability check anywhere along it.
UI:N - In the removable-media/udisks2 automount scenario the crafted volume is mounted without any deliberate victim action, and the trigger itself is a normal file read or write performed by the attacker on their own image.
S:U - The uninitialized-memory consumption, the resulting out-of-bounds page accesses, and any fault all occur inside the host kernel's own security authority; no VM, hypervisor, IOMMU, or sandbox boundary is crossed.
C:H - The uninitialized fd->record and fd->entryoffset gate and then feed hfs_bnode_read(bnode, &data, off, 4) in the hfs_brec_find() index-node loop, where the unvalidated offset indexes node->page[] out of bounds and dereferences arbitrary slab contents as a struct page *, giving an unbounded kernel-memory read; in addition, stale kmalloc'd bytes from fd->key seed hip->cached_start/cached_extents, which are persisted into on-disk metadata the attacker reads back.
I:H - On the hfsplus_free_fork() path, __hfsplus_ext_read_extent() can return success with uninitialized fields, after which hfs_brec_remove() performs hfs_bnode_write_u16() and hfs_bnode_move() using the garbage fd->record, fd->keyoffset and fd->keylength+fd->entrylength, producing out-of-bounds writes into kernel page data; garbage extent records additionally steer map_bh() to arbitrary device sectors.
A:H - On the tree->root == 0 path fd->bnode is NULL, so once the uninitialized entrylength passes the "!= sizeof(hfsplus_extent_rec)" check the code dereferences a NULL bnode in hfs_bnode_read(); the reported syzbot outcome is already "Kernel panic - not syncing", and a persistent crafted volume retriggers the fault on every access.
In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved:

vsock: Ignore signal/timeout on connect() if already established

During connect(), acting on a signal/timeout by disconnecting an already
established socket leads to several issues:

1. connect() invoking vsock_transport_cancel_pkt() ->
virtio_transport_purge_skbs() may race with sendmsg() invoking
virtio_transport_get_credit(). This results in a permanently elevated
`vvs->bytes_unsent`. Which, in turn, confuses the SOCK_LINGER handling.

2. connect() resetting a connected socket's state may race with socket
being placed in a sockmap. A disconnected socket remaining in a sockmap
breaks sockmap's assumptions. And gives rise to WARNs.

3. connect() transitioning SS_CONNECTED -> SS_UNCONNECTED allows for a
transport change/drop after TCP_ESTABLISHED. Which poses a problem for
any simultaneous sendmsg() or connect() and may result in a
use-after-free/null-ptr-deref.

Do not disconnect socket on signal/timeout. Keep the logic for unconnected
sockets: they don't linger, can't be placed in a sockmap, are rejected by
sendmsg().

[1]: https://lore.kernel.org/netdev/e07fd95c-9a38-4eea-9638-133e38c2ec9b@rbox.co/
[2]: https://lore.kernel.org/netdev/20250317-vsock-trans-signal-race-v4-0-fc8837f3f1d4@rbox.co/
[3]: https://lore.kernel.org/netdev/60f1b7db-3099-4f6a-875e-af9f6ef194f6@rbox.co/
AV:L - The vulnerability is triggered through AF_VSOCK socket syscalls (connect/sendmsg) plus signal delivery from a local process; per kernel scoring guidance vsock is a local attack surface. No network packet from an unauthenticated remote peer can drive the signal/timeout race.
AC:L - The attacker controls both sides of the race — the listening peer (vsock_loopback/VMADDR_CID_LOCAL requires no VM), the exact moment of connection establishment, the signal storm from a sibling thread, and the concurrent sendmsg()/second connect() — and can retry indefinitely until the window is hit.
PR:L - vsock_create() performs no capability check, so any unprivileged local user (including inside a container) can create AF_VSOCK sockets and reach vsock_connect(). No root, CAP_NET_ADMIN, or namespace trickery is needed.
UI:N - The attacker's own threads perform every step — connect, accept, signal delivery, and the follow-up connect/sendmsg. No victim action is required.
S:U - The corruption and its impact are confined to the kernel's own security authority; there is no guest-to-host or IOMMU boundary crossing involved in the freed vsock transport state.
C:H - The transport change/drop after TCP_ESTABLISHED yields a use-after-free of the kmalloc'd virtio_vsock_sock and a stale transport ops pointer reachable from sendmsg(); heap reclaim of the freed object gives an attacker-controlled read primitive over kernel memory.
I:H - The same use-after-free permits heap spraying over the freed transport state and invocation of function pointers from a stale ops/module reference, providing a write and control-flow hijack primitive as in prior vsock UAF exploits.
A:H - The commit explicitly notes use-after-free/NULL-pointer dereference, plus sockmap WARNs and a permanently elevated bytes_unsent that breaks SOCK_LINGER handling — any of which oops or hang the kernel, and the race can be re-run at will.
In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved:

net: openvswitch: remove never-working support for setting nsh fields

The validation of the set(nsh(...)) action is completely wrong.
It runs through the nsh_key_put_from_nlattr() function that is the
same function that validates NSH keys for the flow match and the
push_nsh() action. However, the set(nsh(...)) has a very different
memory layout. Nested attributes in there are doubled in size in
case of the masked set(). That makes proper validation impossible.

There is also confusion in the code between the 'masked' flag, that
says that the nested attributes are doubled in size containing both
the value and the mask, and the 'is_mask' that says that the value
we're parsing is the mask. This is causing kernel crash on trying to
write into mask part of the match with SW_FLOW_KEY_PUT() during
validation, while validate_nsh() doesn't allocate any memory for it:

BUG: kernel NULL pointer dereference, address: 0000000000000018
#PF: supervisor read access in kernel mode
#PF: error_code(0x0000) - not-present page
PGD 1c2383067 P4D 1c2383067 PUD 20b703067 PMD 0
Oops: Oops: 0000 [#1] SMP NOPTI
CPU: 8 UID: 0 Kdump: loaded Not tainted 6.17.0-rc4+ #107 PREEMPT(voluntary)
RIP: 0010:nsh_key_put_from_nlattr+0x19d/0x610 [openvswitch]
Call Trace:
<TASK>
validate_nsh+0x60/0x90 [openvswitch]
validate_set.constprop.0+0x270/0x3c0 [openvswitch]
__ovs_nla_copy_actions+0x477/0x860 [openvswitch]
ovs_nla_copy_actions+0x8d/0x100 [openvswitch]
ovs_packet_cmd_execute+0x1cc/0x310 [openvswitch]
genl_family_rcv_msg_doit+0xdb/0x130
genl_family_rcv_msg+0x14b/0x220
genl_rcv_msg+0x47/0xa0
netlink_rcv_skb+0x53/0x100
genl_rcv+0x24/0x40
netlink_unicast+0x280/0x3b0
netlink_sendmsg+0x1f7/0x430
____sys_sendmsg+0x36b/0x3a0
___sys_sendmsg+0x87/0xd0
__sys_sendmsg+0x6d/0xd0
do_syscall_64+0x7b/0x2c0
entry_SYSCALL_64_after_hwframe+0x76/0x7e

The third issue with this process is that while trying to convert
the non-masked set into masked one, validate_set() copies and doubles
the size of the OVS_KEY_ATTR_NSH as if it didn't have any nested
attributes. It should be copying each nested attribute and doubling
them in size independently. And the process must be properly reversed
during the conversion back from masked to a non-masked variant during
the flow dump.

In the end, the only two outcomes of trying to use this action are
either validation failure or a kernel crash. And if somehow someone
manages to install a flow with such an action, it will most definitely
not do what it is supposed to, since all the keys and the masks are
mixed up.

Fixing all the issues is a complex task as it requires re-writing
most of the validation code.

Given that and the fact that this functionality never worked since
introduction, let's just remove it altogether. It's better to
re-introduce it later with a proper implementation instead of trying
to fix it in stable releases.
AV:N - The use-after-free is dereferenced inside `mptcp_incoming_options()` while parsing an MPTCP ADD_ADDR echo option received from a remote peer (`tcp_v4_rcv → tcp_rcv_established → tcp_data_queue → mptcp_incoming_options → mptcp_pm_del_add_timer`), as shown verbatim in the syzbot stack. Any remote MPTCP peer of an internet-facing MPTCP-enabled server reaches this code with ordinary TCP packets.
AC:L - The attacker controls both sides of the race — the ADD_ADDR echo can be emitted at will and repeatedly to keep a thread parked in the unlocked window, while the freeing side (`FLUSH_ADDRS`/`DEL_ADDR`/userspace-PM `REMOVE`) is either driven by the PM daemon reacting to the attacker's own MPTCP address events or issued directly by a local attacker looping netlink calls. Both `mptcp_pm_del_add_timer()` callers are trivially invokable in a tight loop, so the window is hit reliably.
PR:N - A remote MPTCP peer needs no credentials or privileges on the target — only an established MPTCP connection, whose keys are what `add_addr_hmac_valid()` checks. Even the netlink half of the race is only `GENL_UNS_ADMIN_PERM`, i.e. CAP_NET_ADMIN reachable by an unprivileged user via `unshare -Urn`, so no real privilege is required anywhere on the path.
UI:N - Exploitation happens entirely in the kernel's TCP receive path and the MPTCP path-manager worker; no victim action, mount, or file open is needed.
S:U - The corruption is confined to kernel slab memory and the compromised component is the kernel itself, so there is no crossing into a different security authority.
C:H - The freed `mptcp_pm_add_entry` lives in a sprayable general kmalloc cache; after reclaim, `__timer_delete_sync()` reads attacker-groomed memory and a fired `mptcp_pm_add_timer()` re-announces `entry->addr` from the reclaimed object, leaking kernel heap contents onto the wire and yielding an arbitrary-read primitive via the confused `entry->sock` pointer.
I:H - `__timer_delete_sync()` writes into the freed timer during detach, and a timer firing out of a reallocated object drives `sk_reset_timer()`/`__sock_put()` on a fully attacker-controlled `entry->sock` pointer — a wild-pointer write and refcount decrement suitable for heap grooming into control-flow hijack.
A:H - KASAN confirms a slab-use-after-free in `__timer_delete_sync()`; unmitigated this reliably corrupts timer-base list state and oopses or panics the kernel, and the race can be re-triggered repeatedly from the network for a persistent denial of service.
AV:N - The vulnerable function is reached directly from the packet receive path (`tcp_input.c` → `mptcp_incoming_options()` on received MP_FASTCLOSE and DATA_FIN options) and from the mp_fail/close timeouts armed by remote peer behaviour such as a bad DSS checksum or subflow reset. A remote MPTCP peer drives the connection state machine that schedules the work, making this reachable over the network with no local access.
AC:L - The attacker controls both sides of the race by opening and tearing down large numbers of MPTCP connections/subflows, generating an unbounded stream of work-scheduling events (timer expiry, MP_FASTCLOSE, DATA_FIN, subflow close) that each retry the race. The window is further widened on threaded-softirq/PREEMPT_RT kernels (as in the syzbot trace, `run_ktimerd`) and under vCPU preemption in virtualized deployments, so success is achievable at will through repetition.
PR:N - No credentials or capabilities are checked anywhere on the path; a remote peer of an MPTCP connection (or an unauthenticated client connecting to an MPTCP-enabled listener) triggers the option-parsing and timeout paths in softirq context. Locally the same code is reachable by any unprivileged user simply creating and closing `IPPROTO_MPTCP` sockets.
UI:N - The race is triggered entirely by attacker-generated traffic and normal MPTCP connection teardown/timeout processing. No victim action of any kind is required.
S:U - The corruption is confined to kernel memory within the same security authority; there is no crossing of a VM, IOMMU, or sandbox boundary. This is a standard in-kernel use-after-free.
C:H - The `struct sock` is freed while still referenced, and the freed slab object can be reallocated and read back through the still-live MPTCP socket/timer state, exposing arbitrary kernel heap contents. Use-after-free on a socket object gives an attacker control over the contents of the freed object, enabling kernel memory disclosure.
I:H - After the premature free, `sock_hold()` performs a refcount increment write at a fixed offset into freed (and potentially reallocated) memory, and the trailing `sock_put()` can re-enter `sk_free()`/`sk_destruct` on that object, producing a double free and freelist corruption. These are established primitives for heap grooming and control-flow hijacking, i.e. full integrity loss.
A:H - The reported symptom is a refcount underflow warning followed by use-after-free of the MPTCP socket, which readily results in an oops or panic when the freed object is dereferenced by the timer, workqueue, or destructor path. Any UAF of this kind reliably crashes the kernel, and it can be triggered repeatedly.
AV:N - The race is driven by data and events from the remote NVMe-oF/FC peer — `nvme_fc_fcpio_done()` queues `->ioerr_work` on any transport-detected I/O error (aborted exchange, bad ERSP IU, bad transfer length), and controller teardown itself is remotely inducible via remote-port loss/LOGO leading to `nvme_fc_unregister_remoteport()` or `dev_loss_tmo` expiry in `nvme_fc_reconnect_or_delete()` calling `nvme_delete_ctrl()`. A malicious or compromised NVMe/FC target (or a peer able to inject frames on the fabric, which may be extended over routed links via FCIP/FCoE) needs no host access to drive both halves.
AC:L - The attacker controls both sides of the race: it supplies the erroring I/O completions and triggers the association teardown, and during `nvme_fc_delete_association()` every aborted I/O unconditionally re-queues `ioerr_work` (state is DELETING, not RESETTING, so the `check_error` guard passes) after `cancel_work_sync()` has already run, so the work is reliably resurrected whenever I/O is outstanding at delete time.
PR:N - A remote FC/NVMe-oF peer needs no credentials or privileges on the victim host; the vulnerable path is reached purely through normal transport error completions and fabric port-loss events on an already-established association.
UI:N - No victim action is required — connectivity loss and `dev_loss_tmo` expiry delete the controller automatically while in-flight I/O is aborted, with no administrator involvement.
S:U - The corruption is confined to kernel memory and workqueue state within the same security authority; no VM, IOMMU, or sandbox boundary is crossed.
C:H - The freed `nvme_fc_ctrl` is read after `kfree()` — the workqueue dereferences the embedded `work_struct` (`work->func`, `work->entry`) and `nvme_fc_ctrl_ioerr_work()`/`nvme_fc_error_recovery()` read `ctrl->ctrl` state from freed memory, a use-after-free that with slab reuse yields an information-disclosure primitive.
I:H - The workqueue performs `list_del_init(&work->entry)` and `move_linked_works()` list manipulation writing into the freed object, and `process_one_work()` loads and calls `work->func` from it; reclaiming the slab with sprayed data gives an attacker-controlled indirect call and arbitrary-write primitive.
A:H - The reported failure is an immediate kernel BUG/oops (`list_del corruption ... kernel BUG at lib/list_debug.c:52` in `move_linked_works()` from a `nvme-wq` worker), i.e. a system panic and loss of the storage path.
AV:L - The corrupted teardown is reached through local operations on the platform device (module unload, sysfs driver unbind, or automatic devres unwind on probe failure), not through any network or remote data path. No physical hardware access is needed to initiate it.
AC:L - The wrong pointer is passed unconditionally on every probe, so the corrupt teardown is fully deterministic with no race to win. Turning the subsequent freed-`priv` notifier/work UAF into a controlled call is standard heap grooming the attacker performs from userspace.
PR:L - The teardown path is normally entered by driver unbind/module unload, and the identical corrupted action also executes automatically on the probe-failure unwind with no privilege at all; a local unprivileged process supplies the slab contents that the freed `priv` is reallocated into. Scored at the higher-severity option consistent with kernel CNA treatment of devres-lifetime corruption.
UI:N - No victim action is required — unbind/unload or probe-failure unwind executes the bad devres action directly, and the resulting stale notifier is invoked by ordinary SCU interrupt activity.
S:U - The corruption and the resulting use-after-free are confined to kernel memory within the same security authority; no VM, IOMMU, or sandbox boundary is crossed.
C:H - The stale `notifier_block` and `delayed_work` live in freed devm_kzalloc memory that an attacker can reallocate and shape, and the wild pointer reads reused kernel stack memory, giving a path to disclose arbitrary kernel data.
I:H - `cancel_delayed_work_sync()` performs writes (`atomic_long_set` on `work->data`, timer/worker list manipulation) through an unrelated stale stack address, and the never-unregistered notifier yields an indirect call through a function pointer read from freed slab memory — both usable for control-flow hijacking.
A:H - Operating on a garbage `timer_list`/`work_struct` and later walking a notifier chain containing freed memory reliably produces an oops or panic, and the flush path can hang on a bogus work item."
