CWE-918
AllowedServer-Side Request Forgery (SSRF)
Abstraction: Base · Status: Incomplete
The web server receives a URL or similar request from an upstream component and retrieves the contents of this URL, but it does not sufficiently ensure that the request is being sent to the expected destination.
6576 vulnerabilities reference this CWE, most recent first.

Prior to 0.8.8, the Docker API server's SSRF protection (validate_webhook_url / validate_url_destination in deploy/docker/utils.py) used an explicit IPv4/IPv6 CIDR blocklist that missed several address families. An attacker could reach internal services and cloud metadata endpoints (e.g. 169.254.169.254) despite the filter by encoding an internal IPv4 address inside an IPv6 transition form, or by using the IPv6 unspecified address. Because the Docker API is unauthenticated by default (jwt_enabled: false), no credentials are required. This vulnerability is fixed in 0.8.8.
css_parser is a Ruby CSS parser. From 2.2.0 until 3.0.0, CssParser::Parser#read_remote_file in lib/css_parser/parser.rb, and therefore load_uri! and the @import-following branch of add_block!, issued HTTP and HTTPS requests against any host, port, and URI without a scheme allowlist, host or IP filtering, or protection against link-local, loopback, or RFC-1918 addresses. Location: redirects were followed recursively back into the same function, which also serviced file:// URIs, so a single attacker-controlled HTTP redirect could upgrade the bug from SSRF to arbitrary local file disclosure. Any consumer of css_parser that hands it attacker-influenced CSS together with a base_uri: option is exposed. This issue is fixed in version 3.0.0.
en
ContextForge is an AI gateway, registry, and proxy that provides centralized discovery, guardrails, and management for MCP, A2A, and REST or gRPC APIs. Prior to 1.0.3, the /admin/gateways/test call site in mcpgateway/admin.py calls validate_gateway_test_url() in mcpgateway/common/validators.py to resolve and reject private, loopback, link-local, and cloud-metadata addresses, but ResilientHttpClient later resolves the original hostname again without binding the validated address. When MCPGATEWAY_ADMIN_API_ENABLED is enabled, an attacker with a database-backed role containing explicit gateways.read permission can use DNS rebinding to return a public address during validation and a private or metadata address during connection, bypassing ssrf_blocked_networks and ssrf_dns_fail_closed because those controls apply only to the validation-time result. The endpoint's allow_admin_bypass=False setting means a bootstrap-only virtual platform-admin identity without a database role is not sufficient. Successful exploitation can reach internal services and cloud metadata, expose cloud credentials, access internal APIs, or probe internal network ports. This issue is fixed in version 1.0.3.
ApostropheCMS is an open-source Node.js content management system. In versions up to and including 4.30.0, when `prettyUrls: true` is enabled on `@apostrophecms/file` (a documented SEO feature for serving uploaded files at clean URLs), the public pretty-URL handler builds the upstream URL using the raw `Host` HTTP request header. That URL is then `fetch`'ed and the response body + headers are streamed straight back to the requester. Because `Host` is fully attacker-controlled, an unauthenticated remote attacker can pivot the apostrophe process to issue outbound HTTP requests against any host it can reach on the private network. The path component is constrained to `/uploads/attachments/<cuid>-<slug>.<ext>` (built from a local-DB lookup), which keeps the impact narrow: cross-instance data exfiltration is neutralized by cuid uniqueness, but blind-SSRF residuals remain (network-topology mapping via response-code / timing differences and verbose proxy/WAF 404 body disclosure). As of time of publication, no known patched versions exist."

Prior to 2.3.2, the POST /host/db/proxy/test endpoint accepts the singleProxy, proxyChain, and testTarget request fields without validating their destination addresses. The testProxyConnectivity path uses raw TCP and SOCKS connections to attacker-selected hosts and ports, allowing an authenticated user to probe localhost, private networks, link-local metadata services, and other infrastructure reachable from the Termix server. Structured connection errors disclose host reachability and timing information, and successful metadata access can expose cloud credentials. This issue is fixed in version 2.3.2.
en
CKAN MCP Server is a tool for querying CKAN open data portals. A known vulnerability CVE-2026-33060 indicated tools including ckan_package_search and sparql_query that accept a base_url parameter had the risk of making HTTP requests to arbitrary endpoints without restriction. A fix was applied to filter out ip addresses. However, a method to bypass exists prior to version 0.4.106. CKAN MCP Server validates caller-supplied CKAN server URLs by inspecting only the parsed hostname string before issuing outbound HTTP requests. In `src/utils/http.ts`, hostname aliases such as `ip6-localhost` are not equal to `localhost`, are not dotted IPv4 literals, and are not bracketed IPv6 literals, so they pass the SSRF filter but can resolve to loopback when the server performs the request. A remote MCP caller that can invoke CKAN tools with a `server_url` can therefore make the server connect to local or private addresses and, for CKAN-shaped responses, receive response-derived data. The updated fix in version 0.4.106 replaced the single `hostname === 'localhost'` check with a blocked-hostname `Set` covering `ip6-localhost` and `ip6-loopback`.
oasdiff-action is a GitHub Action that detects breaking changes in OpenAPI specs and post a review on every pull request. Before version 0.0.51, the oasdiff actions resolved external $refs in the OpenAPI spec by default (allow-external-refs: true). When an action runs on a pull request whose spec is attacker-controlled — most importantly fork pull requests on public repositories — a $ref in that spec is fetched/read on the runner with no interaction required, enabling SSRF and disclosure of structured files on the runner. This issue has been patched in version 0.0.51."

CAPEC-664: Server Side Request Forgery
An adversary exploits improper input validation by submitting maliciously crafted input to a target application running on a server, with the goal of forcing the server to make a request either to itself, to web services running in the server’s internal network, or to external third parties. If successful, the adversary’s request will be made with the server’s privilege level, bypassing its authentication controls. This ultimately allows the adversary to access sensitive data, execute commands on the server’s network, and make external requests with the stolen identity of the server. Server Side Request Forgery attacks differ from Cross Site Request Forgery attacks in that they target the server itself, whereas CSRF attacks exploit an insecure user authentication mechanism to perform unauthorized actions on the user's behalf.
