"value": "0day Rubbish Research Team is publicly disclosing a vulnerability in Server\nTechnology (Legrand group) PRO3X series intelligent rack PDUs, firmware\nspdu-pro3x-030600 build 46640 (ARM 32-bit uClibc Linux).\n\nType: authenticated listener program override leading to root command execution\n(CWE-78, CWE-269; a separate hard-coded factory credential is reported as\nCWE-798). PRO3X PDUs run port_mux, an inetd-style launcher that starts every\nprotocol listener with fork + execv and never drops privileges, so listeners run\nas root. The executable path is proto_listener_entry.program in cfg_pmux.cdl,\ntyped nctl_nspc_nempty_str_512, a free-form string with no whitelist, and an\nauthenticated administrator rewrites it through setConfiguration (POST /J/cfg).\nPointing the port 80 http listener at /bin/sh with arguments -c \"\u003ccmd\u003e\" applies at\nruntime: the next TCP connection to port 80 executes the attacker\u0027s command as\nuid 0.\n\nScoring. This finding is dual-scored, with the conditional figure published\nalongside the primary:\n- PRIMARY, 7.2 High, CVSS:3.1/AV:N/AC:L/PR:H/UI:N/S:U/C:H/I:H/A:H. An\n authenticated administrator is required, and that gate was verified unbypassed.\n- CONDITIONAL, 9.8 Critical, CVSS:3.1/AV:N/AC:L/PR:N/UI:N/S:U/C:H/I:H/A:H. Where\n the factory default administrator credential is left unchanged, unrotated units\n are open with no privileged secret.\n\nImpact: root (uid 0) on the rack power distribution controller, a\ncritical-infrastructure power monitoring and control appliance. Full configuration\ncontrol follows; the disabled modbus (502) and mbusd (503) listeners can be armed\nwith attacker-chosen programs. Outlet switching and power cycling were not\nseparately exercised by this proof-of-concept.\n\nAuthentication: post-authentication administrator (with a shipped default\nadministrator credential reported separately as CWE-798).\n\nVerification boundary, stated plainly. No physical PRO3X hardware was used, and\nthe three-step HTTP chain (POST /J/auth, POST /J/cfg, then the TCP trigger) was\nNOT exercised end to end against a device. What was dynamically proven is the\nroot execution primitive: port_mux fork + execv of an injected /bin/sh -c as uid\n0, run twice inside a network namespace under qemu-arm-static against the\nrootfs unpacked from the firmware Squashfs, each producing a root-owned marker\ncontaining uid=0(root). Each link of the HTTP delivery path was confirmed\ncomponent by component (httpd.conf routing, the BusyBox SCM_RIGHTS descriptor\npassing, the administrator credential accepted by auth_cli, and the configuration\nwrite accepted and read back through cfgc). SCM_RIGHTS descriptor passing between\nthe separate httpd and jsonrpcd processes does not complete under qemu user-mode\nemulation, which is an emulation-environment limitation rather than a property of\nthe vulnerability. Only this build was tested; no other build or model is claimed.\n\nFull technical analysis and a reproducible proof-of-concept:\n https://0day-rubbish.com/blog/servertech-pro3x-port-mux-command-injection\n\nProject archive (ongoing disclosure series):\n https://github.com/Exploit-Garbage/0day-Rubbish\n\nThe vendor has been notified through its published security contact. "value": "0day Rubbish Research Team is publicly disclosing a vulnerability in\nLightstreamer Server 7.4.8 build 3506 ENTERPRISE (with JMS Extender 2.1.0).\n\nType: a hard-coded placeholder credential shipped in the distribution\n(user_changeme / password_changeme) authenticating a cleartext RMI management\nconnector on TCP 8888 bound to every interface; because the connector exposes\ncreateMBean, an attacker registers javax.management.loading.MLet and calls\ngetMBeansFromURL against an origin they control, and the loaded MBean\u0027s\nconstructor runs Runtime.exec (CWE-798, CWE-319)\n\nScoring. This finding is dual-scored because remote reach depends on the\nshipped placeholder being left unchanged. Both figures are published:\n- PRIMARY, 9.8 Critical, CVSS:3.1/AV:N/AC:L/PR:N/UI:N/S:U/C:H/I:H/A:H. This\n applies with the shipped placeholder credential unchanged, which is how the\n distribution archive delivers it (byte-identical to the deployed file, with no\n documented first-login rotation gate).\n- CONDITIONAL, 7.2 High, CVSS:3.1/AV:N/AC:L/PR:H/UI:N/S:U/C:H/I:H/A:H. This\n applies where an operator has rotated the credential but createMBean and MLet\n remain exposed: the step then needs a genuinely privileged account.\n\nImpact: arbitrary command execution as the broker process user, which was root\nin the tested deployment. Configuration, TLS material and keystores, streamed\napplication data and any other credential configured in lightstreamer_conf.xml\nare all reachable; the payload MBean stays registered for the JVM lifetime as a\npersistent command channel.\n\nAuthentication: none beyond the shipped placeholder pair (empty and wrong\ncredentials were both rejected with SecurityException, so the defect is the\ncredential\u0027s provenance, not a bypassable check).\n\nVerification boundary, stated plainly. We verified the chain end to end over\nloopback against a broker unpacked from the distribution archive and started as\nroot, with the attacker HTTP origin simulated on the same research host: four\nruns (three against the jmxrmi platform MBean server, one against the lsjmx\napplication MBean server), an out-of-band HTTP access log proving a uniquely\nnamed JAR was really fetched rather than cached, runCmd returning uid=0(root)\nand a root-owned proof file. Remote cross-network reach is an assessment of the\nshipped bind topology (TCP 8888 binds 0.0.0.0 because \u003clistening_interface\u003e is\ncommented out, with no host firewall rule dropping it), not an observed attack\ncrossing a network boundary. The one genuine precondition is that the operator\nhas not replaced the shipped placeholder pair.\n\nThis is a distinct defect from the separate unauthenticated jvmtiAgentLoad\nprimitive we are disclosing in the same product; it reaches code execution via\nremote Java class loading rather than a native agent load.\n\nFull technical analysis and a reproducible proof-of-concept:\n https://0day-rubbish.com/blog/lightstreamer-default-creds-jmx-rmi-mlet-rce\n\nProject archive (ongoing disclosure series):\n https://github.com/Exploit-Garbage/0day-Rubbish\n\nThe vendor has been notified through its published security contact. Mitigation
- For outbound authentication: store passwords, keys, and other credentials outside of the code in a strongly-protected, encrypted configuration file or database that is protected from access by all outsiders, including other local users on the same system. Properly protect the key (CWE-320). If you cannot use encryption to protect the file, then make sure that the permissions are as restrictive as possible [REF-7].
- In Windows environments, the Encrypted File System (EFS) may provide some protection.
Mitigation
For inbound authentication: Rather than hard-code a default username and password, key, or other authentication credentials for first time logins, utilize a "first login" mode that requires the user to enter a unique strong password or key.
Mitigation
If the product must contain hard-coded credentials or they cannot be removed, perform access control checks and limit which entities can access the feature that requires the hard-coded credentials. For example, a feature might only be enabled through the system console instead of through a network connection.
Mitigation
- For inbound authentication using passwords: apply strong one-way hashes to passwords and store those hashes in a configuration file or database with appropriate access control. That way, theft of the file/database still requires the attacker to try to crack the password. When handling an incoming password during authentication, take the hash of the password and compare it to the saved hash.
- Use randomly assigned salts for each separate hash that is generated. This increases the amount of computation that an attacker needs to conduct a brute-force attack, possibly limiting the effectiveness of the rainbow table method.
Mitigation
- For front-end to back-end connections: Three solutions are possible, although none are complete.
- The first suggestion involves the use of generated passwords or keys that are changed automatically and must be entered at given time intervals by a system administrator. These passwords will be held in memory and only be valid for the time intervals.
- Next, the passwords or keys should be limited at the back end to only performing actions valid for the front end, as opposed to having full access.
- Finally, the messages sent should be tagged and checksummed with time sensitive values so as to prevent replay-style attacks.
CAPEC-191: Read Sensitive Constants Within an Executable
An adversary engages in activities to discover any sensitive constants present within the compiled code of an executable. These constants may include literal ASCII strings within the file itself, or possibly strings hard-coded into particular routines that can be revealed by code refactoring methods including static and dynamic analysis.
CAPEC-70: Try Common or Default Usernames and Passwords
An adversary may try certain common or default usernames and passwords to gain access into the system and perform unauthorized actions. An adversary may try an intelligent brute force using empty passwords, known vendor default credentials, as well as a dictionary of common usernames and passwords. Many vendor products come preconfigured with default (and thus well-known) usernames and passwords that should be deleted prior to usage in a production environment. It is a common mistake to forget to remove these default login credentials. Another problem is that users would pick very simple (common) passwords (e.g. "secret" or "password") that make it easier for the attacker to gain access to the system compared to using a brute force attack or even a dictionary attack using a full dictionary.
