Vulnerability from github – Published: 2022-05-13 01:34 – Updated: 2022-05-13 01:34
VLAI
Details

A vulnerability in ClamAV versions prior to 0.100.2 could allow an attacker to cause a denial of service (DoS) condition. The vulnerability is due to an error related to the MEW unpacker within the "unmew11()" function (libclamav/mew.c), which can be exploited to trigger an invalid read memory access via a specially crafted EXE file.

Details

An out-of-bounds read was addressed with improved input validation. This issue is fixed in iCloud for Windows 11.4, iOS 14.0 and iPadOS 14.0, watchOS 7.0, tvOS 14.0, iCloud for Windows 7.21, iTunes for Windows 12.10.9. Processing a maliciously crafted tiff file may lead to a denial-of-service or potentially disclose memory contents.

Vulnerability from github – Published: 2021-11-10 18:46 – Updated: 2024-11-13 22:02
VLAI
Summary
Heap OOB in `FusedBatchNorm` kernels
Details

Impact

The implementation of FusedBatchNorm kernels is vulnerable to a heap OOB:

import tensorflow as tf

tf.raw_ops.FusedBatchNormGrad(
  y_backprop=tf.constant([i for i in range(9)],shape=(1,1,3,3),dtype=tf.float32)
  x=tf.constant([i for i in range(2)],shape=(1,1,1,2),dtype=tf.float32)
  scale=[1,1],
  reserve_space_1=[1,1],
  reserve_space_2=[1,1,1],
  epsilon=1.0,
  data_format='NCHW',
  is_training=True)

Patches

We have patched the issue in GitHub commit aab9998916c2ffbd8f0592059fad352622f89cda.

The fix will be included in TensorFlow 2.7.0. We will also cherrypick this commit on TensorFlow 2.6.1, TensorFlow 2.5.2, and TensorFlow 2.4.4, as these are also affected and still in supported range.

For more information

Please consult our security guide for more information regarding the security model and how to contact us with issues and questions.

Vulnerability from github – Published: 2026-05-08 15:31 – Updated: 2026-05-26 18:31
VLAI
Details

In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved:

staging: rtl8723bs: fix potential out-of-bounds read in rtw_restruct_wmm_ie

The current code checks 'i + 5 < in_len' at the end of the if statement. However, it accesses 'in_ie[i + 5]' before that check, which can lead to an out-of-bounds read. Move the length check to the beginning of the conditional to ensure the index is within bounds before accessing the array.

Details

In da, there is a possible out of bounds read due to a missing bounds check. This could lead to local information disclosure, if an attacker has physical access to the device, with no additional execution privileges needed. User interaction is needed for exploitation. Patch ID: ALPS09291294; Issue ID: MSV-2062.

Mitigation MIT-5
Implementation

Strategy: Input Validation

  • Assume all input is malicious. Use an "accept known good" input validation strategy, i.e., use a list of acceptable inputs that strictly conform to specifications. Reject any input that does not strictly conform to specifications, or transform it into something that does.
  • When performing input validation, consider all potentially relevant properties, including length, type of input, the full range of acceptable values, missing or extra inputs, syntax, consistency across related fields, and conformance to business rules. As an example of business rule logic, "boat" may be syntactically valid because it only contains alphanumeric characters, but it is not valid if the input is only expected to contain colors such as "red" or "blue."
  • Do not rely exclusively on looking for malicious or malformed inputs. This is likely to miss at least one undesirable input, especially if the code's environment changes. This can give attackers enough room to bypass the intended validation. However, denylists can be useful for detecting potential attacks or determining which inputs are so malformed that they should be rejected outright.
  • To reduce the likelihood of introducing an out-of-bounds read, ensure that you validate and ensure correct calculations for any length argument, buffer size calculation, or offset. Be especially careful of relying on a sentinel (i.e. special character such as NUL) in untrusted inputs.
Mitigation
Architecture and Design

Strategy: Language Selection

Use a language that provides appropriate memory abstractions.

CAPEC-540: Overread Buffers

An adversary attacks a target by providing input that causes an application to read beyond the boundary of a defined buffer. This typically occurs when a value influencing where to start or stop reading is set to reflect positions outside of the valid memory location of the buffer. This type of attack may result in exposure of sensitive information, a system crash, or arbitrary code execution.
