Summary
Red Hat Security Advisory: Red Hat Hardened Images RPMs bug fix and enhancement update
Severity
Important
Notes
Topic: An update for Red Hat Hardened Images RPMs is now available.
Details: This update includes the following RPMs: pgbouncer: * pgbouncer-1.26.1-1.hum1 (aarch64, s390x, x86_64) * pgbouncer-1.26.1-1.hum1.src (src)

A flaw was found in PgBouncer. An integer overflow in the message buffer growth logic allows a remote attacker to cause a Denial of Service (DoS) when a large maximum packet size is configured. By sending a specially crafted packet header declaring an excessively large length, an attacker can trigger an infinite loop in the buffer calculation. Because PgBouncer handles connections in a single process, this loop consumes a full CPU core and halts all pooled connections until the process is restarted.

Threats
Impact Moderate

A flaw was found in PgBouncer. An unauthenticated remote attacker can cause a Denial of Service (DoS) by sending a startup message that contains an empty parameter name in its options. This causes PgBouncer to enter an infinite loop during startup parameter processing, consuming high CPU resources and rendering the service unresponsive to all clients until restarted.

CWE-835 - Loop with Unreachable Exit Condition ('Infinite Loop')
Affected products
Fixed 4 products, the same list as for CVE-2026-107348
Threats
Impact Important

A flaw was found in PgBouncer. An improper authentication vulnerability allows a remote attacker possessing valid credentials for any listed user to impersonate any other user configured with Salted Challenge Response Authentication Mechanism (SCRAM), including PgBouncer administrators and backend superusers. By sending a second connection startup message targeted at a non-existent database during an active SCRAM exchange, the target identity is switched while authentication is verified against the initial user credentials. This issue enables an authenticated attacker to achieve privilege escalation and obtain unauthorized administrative access across the database environment.

CWE-841 - Improper Enforcement of Behavioral Workflow

Edit `/etc/pgbouncer/pgbouncer.ini` and set `max_packet_size` to a safe value (or remove the directive to use standard defaults):\n\n```ini\n[pgbouncer]\nmax_packet_size = 2147483647\n```\n\n2. Reload the PgBouncer service to apply changes:\n\n```sh\nsystemctl reload pgbouncer\n```\n\nWarning: Reloading or restarting the service can disrupt ongoing administrative tasks or transient connections. Always schedule configuration reloads during standard maintenance windows.\n\n3. Restrict network access:\nApply firewall rules to ensure that the PgBouncer listening port (default 6432) is accessible only by trusted application hosts and not exposed to untrusted networks.\n\nCaveats: Setting `max_packet_size` to a lower threshold will reject legitimate queries or results exceeding that specified size.",

Drag nodes to arrange them. Double-click a related vulnerability to open it, or a source to visit its link. The Physics button on the left tunes the layout and the simulation; the legend at the bottom left hides or shows nodes by kind and by sighting type.

Forecast uses a logistic model when the trend is rising, or an exponential decay model when the trend is falling. Fitted via linearized least squares.

    Related by attack behaviour

Vulnerabilities whose description is nearest to this one in the vector space of the CIRCL/vulnerability-attack-technique-biencoder model. This is a similarity search over the bi-encoder space (plain cosine), not a classification, and it has no measured accuracy.
