Vulnerability from csaf_redhat - Published: 2020-04-28 16:04 - Updated: 2025-11-21 18:13
Summary
Red Hat Security Advisory: tcpdump security update
Severity
Low
Notes
Topic: An update for tcpdump is now available for Red Hat Enterprise Linux 8. Red Hat Product Security has rated this update as having a security impact of Low. A Common Vulnerability Scoring System (CVSS) base score, which gives a detailed severity rating, is available for each vulnerability from the CVE link(s) in the References section.
Details: The tcpdump packages contain the tcpdump utility for monitoring network traffic. The tcpdump utility can capture and display the packet headers on a particular network interface or on all interfaces. Security Fix(es): * tcpdump: Stack-based buffer over-read in print-hncp.c:print_prefix() via crafted pcap (CVE-2018-19519) For more details about the security issue(s), including the impact, a CVSS score, acknowledgments, and other related information, refer to the CVE page(s) listed in the References section. Additional Changes: For detailed information on changes in this release, see the Red Hat Enterprise Linux 8.2 Release Notes linked from the References section.

In tcpdump 4.9.2, a stack-based buffer over-read exists in the print_prefix function of print-hncp.c via crafted packet data because of missing initialization.

Related by attack behaviour

Vulnerabilities whose description is nearest to this one in the vector space of the CIRCL/vulnerability-attack-technique-biencoder model. This is a similarity search over the bi-encoder space (plain cosine), not a classification, and it has no measured accuracy.
