RHSA-2003:022
Vulnerability from csaf_redhat - Published: 2003-01-30 19:35 - Updated: 2025-11-21 17:25The BIND 4 and BIND 8.2.x stub resolver libraries, and other libraries such as glibc 2.2.5 and earlier, libc, and libresolv, use the maximum buffer size instead of the actual size when processing a DNS response, which causes the stub resolvers to read past the actual boundary ("read buffer overflow"), allowing remote attackers to cause a denial of service (crash).

The vulnerability is triggered\nby DNS packets larger than 1024 bytes and can cause applications to crash.\n\nIn addition to this, several non-security related bugs have been fixed,\nthe majority for the Itanium (IA64) platform.\n\nAll Red Hat Linux Advanced Server users are advised to upgrade to these\nerrata packages which contain a patch to correct this vulnerability.",
