In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved:

btrfs: adjust subpage bit start based on sectorsize

When running machines with 64k page size and a 16k nodesize we started
seeing tree log corruption in production. This turned out to be because
we were not writing out dirty blocks sometimes, so this in fact affects
all metadata writes.

When writing out a subpage EB we scan the subpage bitmap for a dirty
range. If the range isn't dirty we do

bit_start++;

to move onto the next bit. The problem is the bitmap is based on the
number of sectors that an EB has. So in this case, we have a 64k
pagesize, 16k nodesize, but a 4k sectorsize. This means our bitmap is 4
bits for every node. With a 64k page size we end up with 4 nodes per
page.

To make this easier this is how everything looks

[0 16k 32k 48k ] logical address
[0 4 8 12 ] radix tree offset
[ 64k page ] folio
[ 16k eb ][ 16k eb ][ 16k eb ][ 16k eb ] extent buffers
[ | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | ] bitmap

Now we use all of our addressing based on fs_info->sectorsize_bits, so
as you can see the above our 16k eb->start turns into radix entry 4.

When we find a dirty range for our eb, we correctly do bit_start +=
sectors_per_node, because if we start at bit 0, the next bit for the
next eb is 4, to correspond to eb->start 16k.

However if our range is clean, we will do bit_start++, which will now
put us offset from our radix tree entries.

In our case, assume that the first time we check the bitmap the block is
not dirty, we increment bit_start so now it == 1, and then we loop
around and check again. This time it is dirty, and we go to find that
start using the following equation

start = folio_start + bit_start * fs_info->sectorsize;

so in the case above, eb->start 0 is now dirty, and we calculate start
as

0 + 1 * fs_info->sectorsize = 4096
4096 >> 12 = 1

Now we're looking up the radix tree for 1, and we won't find an eb.
What's worse is now we're using bit_start == 1, so we do bit_start +=
sectors_per_node, which is now 5. If that eb is dirty we will run into
the same thing, we will look at an offset that is not populated in the
radix tree, and now we're skipping the writeout of dirty extent buffers.

The best fix for this is to not use sectorsize_bits to address nodes,
but that's a larger change. Since this is a fs corruption problem fix
it simply by always using sectors_per_node to increment the start bit.
AV:L - The defect is in btrfs metadata writeback, reached through local filesystem syscalls — `write()`/`fsync()` on a file in a mounted btrfs subvolume driving `btrfs_write_marked_extents()` → `filemap_fdatawrite_range()` → `submit_eb_subpage()`. No network protocol handler parses remote data on this path.
AC:L - In the affected configuration (nodesize < PAGE_SIZE, the standard 64K-page + 4K-sector/16K-node subpage setup shipped by arm64/ppc64 distros) an unprivileged user triggers it deterministically by producing a folio with a clean extent buffer preceding a dirty one and calling fsync; the maintainer hit it under ordinary production workloads. There is no race to win and no memory-layout condition outside the attacker's influence.
PR:L - Any local account with write access to a btrfs filesystem (e.g. /home or /tmp on btrfs) can dirty metadata blocks and force log/transaction writeback via fsync. No capabilities, root, or namespace privileges are needed.
UI:N - The attacker performs the writes and fsync calls themselves against an already-mounted filesystem; no victim action, mount, or file-open by another user is required.
S:U - The corruption is confined to the on-disk state of the filesystem managed by the same kernel that contains the bug, crossing no hypervisor, IOMMU, or sandbox boundary.
C:L - The flaw itself is a missed write with no out-of-bounds or freed-memory read, so it exposes nothing directly; however, committing a superblock over unwritten extent-tree and csum-tree blocks leaves allocator/checksum bookkeeping stale, which can leave file extent items pointing at reallocated blocks and yield another file's contents on nodatasum/nodatacow files where no checksum catches it — a real but indirect exposure.
I:H - Dirty metadata is silently dropped while the superblock is advanced to reference it, producing permanent, undetected on-disk corruption of arbitrary btrfs trees — root tree, extent tree, csum tree, or any subvolume's fs tree — so an unprivileged user's writes can destroy metadata and data belonging to any user on the filesystem.
A:H - The resulting stale blocks fail generation validation on the next read ("parent transid verify failed"), causing EIO, transaction abort and forced read-only remount, and a corrupt tree log that makes log replay fail so the filesystem will not mount read-write — up to total loss of availability of the affected volume, including a root filesystem."

Even though the code setting the flag
is designed to prevent it, there are subtle cases where the flag could be
true at the mutex_lock stage and false at the mutex_unlock stage.
AV:L - The vulnerability is reached through local syscalls — `open_by_handle_at(2)` drives the unlocked `has_locked_children()` traversal while `mount(2)`/`umount(2)` mutate the `mnt_mounts` list. No network or physical access is involved.
AC:L - The attacker controls both sides of the race entirely, spinning one thread on `open_by_handle_at(..., O_DIRECTORY)` and another on bind-mount/umount in their own mount namespace; the check runs before the file handle is even copied in or validated, so the window can be hammered without needing a valid handle or any condition outside attacker control.
PR:L - An unprivileged local user reaches the vulnerable call by running `unshare -Urm`, since the gate only needs `CAP_SYS_ADMIN` over the mount namespace's owning user namespace — which is the attacker's own newly created user namespace. It is likewise reachable by any process that is root inside an ordinary container.
UI:N - The attacker triggers everything from their own threads; no victim action, mount, or file access by another user is required.
S:U - The corrupted state and the resulting impact are both within the kernel's own security authority, with no crossing of a VM, hypervisor, or IOMMU boundary.
C:H - Traversing the concurrently modified list reads freed `struct mount` memory and feeds a stale `mnt_mountpoint` into `is_subdir()`/`d_ancestor()`, chasing attacker-groomable pointers; additionally, a raced result defeats the locked-mount gate, granting `HANDLE_CHECK_SUBTREE` and letting the attacker open directory handles into subtrees deliberately hidden by locked mounts.
I:H - The use-after-free is on `mnt_cache` objects the attacker can spray at will via `mount()`, the standard basis for heap-corruption and control-flow primitives; the same bypass also yields a writable directory fd anchor beneath mounts that locking was meant to protect.
A:H - `list_del_init()` on a mount being unmounted leaves a self-referential entry, trapping the unsynchronized traverser in an unkillable in-kernel infinite loop (soft/hard lockup), and the freed-mount dereference produces an oops — Al Viro describes it as "an oopsable race."
en
AV:L - The vulnerability is reached purely through the io_uring syscall interface (`io_uring_setup()` plus `io_uring_enter()` submitting `IORING_OP_MSG_RING`), requiring local access to the machine or a container on it. Per kernel scoring guidance io_uring bugs are Local.
AC:L - The attacker creates and fully controls both sides of the race — the target ring (with `IORING_SETUP_DEFER_TASKRUN|SINGLE_ISSUER`), the flood of MSG_RING requests from io-wq workers on one CPU, and the reaping task that frees those requests on another — so it can be hit repeatedly at will, as syzbot's reproducer demonstrates. No precondition lies outside the attacker's influence; the required ring flags are runtime choices, not a rare build config.
PR:L - Any unprivileged local user can create io_uring instances and submit `IORING_OP_MSG_RING`; there is no capability, credential, or LSM gate anywhere along `io_msg_ring() → io_msg_data_remote() → io_req_local_work_add()`, and `kernel.io_uring_disabled` is 0 by default. The path is equally reachable from inside an unprivileged container or user namespace.
UI:N - Exploitation is entirely self-driven by the attacker's own two threads submitting and reaping io_uring requests. No victim action, mount, or file access is involved.
S:U - The freed `io_kiocb` and the code dereferencing it both live in the kernel's own security authority; no VM, IOMMU, or sandbox boundary is crossed. Standard kernel-local impact.
C:H - A freed `io_kiocb` from the shared `req_cachep` slab is dereferenced after `kmem_cache_free()`, and an attacker who grooms slab reuse controls what object occupies that memory when it is read. Consistent with treating use-after-free as enabling attacker-influenced disclosure of kernel memory contents, this is High.
I:H - The stale read feeds the `nr_tw` value written into the newly queued request and drives the task-wakeup decision, so freed/reallocated memory directly influences kernel control state. Use-after-free conditions on a heap-spray-friendly cache such as `io_kiocb` are treated as High integrity impact.
A:H - This is a confirmed KASAN slab-use-after-free that panics kernels built with KASAN or `panic_on_warn`, and on production kernels a garbage `nr_tw_prev` can exceed `cq_wait_nr` and suppress the `wake_up_state()` of the target ring's submitter, stalling a task that is waiting on already-queued work. Both outcomes are triggerable repeatedly by an unprivileged user.
en
AV:N - The vulnerable code is reached from `mptcp_incoming_options()`/`subflow_check_data_avail()` while processing TCP segments received from the remote peer in softirq context, exactly as shown in the syzbot `tcp_v4_rcv` → `tcp_rcv_established` → `tcp_reset` trace. Any host running an MPTCP-enabled service (or connecting to an attacker-controlled MPTCP server) is exposed over routed IP with no locality requirement.
AC:L - The attacker controls both sides of the race: it clears `allow_infinite_fallback` on demand by withholding DATA_ACKs (forcing `__mptcp_retrans()`) or by initiating an MP_JOIN (`mptcp_subflow_joined()`), and simultaneously forces the fallback attempt by sending a segment with no MP_CAPABLE, no DSS, or a bad DSS checksum. The `check_fully_established()` path needs no race window at all — the `mptcp_do_fallback()` call there is unconditional, so the WARN fires deterministically once `allow_infinite_fallback` is false.
PR:N - No credentials are required — the attacker only needs to be the peer of an MPTCP connection, which an unauthenticated remote client obtains by connecting to an MPTCP-enabled listener, and all of this happens in the transport layer well before any application-level authentication.
UI:N - The entire sequence is driven by attacker-sent TCP segments handled in softirq on an already-established connection; no action by a local user or administrator is needed.
S:U - The corrupted state (`msk` fallback flags, subflow mappings, receive queue) and the resulting warning/crash are confined to the kernel network stack, the same security authority as the vulnerable component. No VM, IOMMU, or sandbox boundary is crossed.
C:N - The forged dummy mapping is bounded by `skb->len` of an attacker-supplied packet and all subsequent accounting stays within the received skb, so no kernel memory is read out of bounds and no data the attacker did not already possess is disclosed.
I:L - When the fallback silently no-ops, `subflow_check_data_avail()` still installs a forged mapping at `msk->ack_seq` and accepts a payload that failed DSS validation/checksum, bypassing RFC 8684's data-level integrity check and interleaving unvalidated bytes with correctly-mapped data from other subflows; the `mptcp_finish_join()` and `mptcp_update_infinite_map()` races likewise desynchronize the two peers' data streams. The modification is real but the attacker cannot choose which kernel structures or how much of the stream is corrupted.
A:H - The bug is a remotely triggerable `WARN_ON_ONCE` in softirq context, which is a full kernel panic on the many builds that set `panic_on_warn` (cloud, hardened distro, Android, automotive), and the fix itself notes the connection is left in an inconsistent state that pre-fix lacked the RFC-mandated subflow reset, wedging or tearing down the MPTCP connection. The trigger is repeatable across connections by an unauthenticated peer.
In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved:

bpf: Fix oob access in cgroup local storage

Lonial reported that an out-of-bounds access in cgroup local storage
can be crafted via tail calls. Given two programs each utilizing a
cgroup local storage with a different value size, and one program
doing a tail call into the other. The verifier will validate each of
the indivial programs just fine. However, in the runtime context
the bpf_cg_run_ctx holds an bpf_prog_array_item which contains the
BPF program as well as any cgroup local storage flavor the program
uses. Helpers such as bpf_get_local_storage() pick this up from the
runtime context:

ctx = container_of(current->bpf_ctx, struct bpf_cg_run_ctx, run_ctx);
storage = ctx->prog_item->cgroup_storage[stype];

if (stype == BPF_CGROUP_STORAGE_SHARED)
ptr = &READ_ONCE(storage->buf)->data[0];
else
ptr = this_cpu_ptr(storage->percpu_buf);

For the second program which was called from the originally attached
one, this means bpf_get_local_storage() will pick up the former
program's map, not its own. With mismatching sizes, this can result
in an unintended out-of-bounds access.

To fix this issue, we need to extend bpf_map_owner with an array of
storage_cookie[] to match on i) the exact maps from the original
program if the second program was using bpf_get_local_storage(), or
ii) allow the tail call combination if the second program was not
using any of the cgroup local storage maps.
AV:L - The vulnerability is reached through the bpf() syscall (loading maps/programs and invoking them via BPF_PROG_TEST_RUN or an attached hook), which requires local access to the system.
AC:L - Exploitation is fully deterministic — the attacker crafts both programs, chooses the mismatched storage value sizes, and controls the tail-call chain; there is no race or attacker-uncontrolled condition.
PR:L - The cgroup-storage maps, the prog-array, and the CGROUP_SKB program are all creatable/loadable without CAP_BPF, and BPF_PROG_TEST_RUN executes them with no capability check, so a basic unprivileged local user can trigger it on a kernel with unprivileged BPF enabled.
UI:N - The attacker loads and runs the BPF programs itself; no action by any other user is required.
S:U - The out-of-bounds access corrupts kernel heap memory within the same kernel security authority; it does not cross a VM, IOMMU, or sandbox boundary.
C:H - The mismatched sizes yield a controllable out-of-bounds read of adjacent kernel heap memory (bpf_get_local_storage returns a map-value pointer read by the program), enabling disclosure of sensitive kernel data.
I:H - The returned pointer is a writable RET_PTR_TO_MAP_VALUE, so program B writes past A's smaller buffer, giving a controllable heap out-of-bounds write suitable for corruption and privilege escalation.
A:H - The out-of-bounds heap read/write readily corrupts adjacent kernel structures, causing oops/panic and denial of service."
