smb/server: fix potential null-ptr-deref of lease_ctx_info in smb2_open()
Summary
In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved:
smb/server: fix potential null-ptr-deref of lease_ctx_info in smb2_open()
null-ptr-deref will occur when (req_op_level == SMB2_OPLOCK_LEVEL_LEASE)
and parse_lease_state() return NULL.
Fix this by check if 'lease_ctx_info' is NULL.
Additionally, remove the redundant parentheses in
parse_durable_handle_context().
AV:L - The vulnerable path is reached through a locally attached btrfs filesystem — a crafted image on a USB stick, loop-mounted file, or container/VM disk image — and then driven by ordinary local file writes or subvolume deletion. There is no network-facing consumer of btrfs_lookup_extent_info().
AC:L - The triggering condition is a static, fully attacker-controlled on-disk value (extent item refs == 0) that the tree checker does not reject, so the crafted image deterministically hits the BUG_ON on the first COW or snapshot-delete of the affected block. No race, timing window, or memory-layout dependency is involved.
PR:L - Once a crafted or inconsistent btrfs is mounted — routinely via desktop/kiosk automount (udisks2/systemd), shared storage, or container images — any unprivileged local user with write access drives btrfs_force_cow_block()/btrfs_drop_snapshot() into the assertion; no capability check gates the path.
UI:N - After the filesystem is present, the attacker triggers the fault entirely through their own file writes or a subvolume delete, with no action required from any other user. Automount removes the need for a victim to explicitly mount the device.
S:U - The crash and any resulting metadata corruption are confined to the kernel and the affected btrfs filesystem, within the same security authority. No hypervisor, IOMMU, or sandbox boundary is crossed.
C:H - The assertion is btrfs's last line of defense before operating on an extent with broken reference bookkeeping; when it is bypassed (CONFIG_BUG=n embedded/IoT builds) update_ref_for_cow() takes the last-reference path and frees a still-referenced tree block, producing cross-linked extents that expose one file's or subvolume's data through another. The oops itself also dumps kernel registers, stack contents, and pointers to the log.
I:H - Continuing past a zero refcount causes btrfs to free and re-allocate live metadata blocks, giving the attacker arbitrary corruption of extent-tree and file data belonging to other users on the filesystem. The oops additionally aborts a transaction mid-flight, leaving on-disk state inconsistent.
A:H - BUG_ON() panics the kernel outright under panic_on_oops; otherwise the task is killed while still holding delayed_refs->lock, head->mutex, and tree locks, so every subsequent delayed-ref operation on that filesystem spins or blocks forever — an unrecoverable filesystem-wide hang and potential hard lockup, which is exactly why the fix unlocks all three before returning -EUCLEAN."

Title
powerpc/rtas: Prevent Spectre v1 gadget construction in sys_rtas()
Summary
In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved:
powerpc/rtas: Prevent Spectre v1 gadget construction in sys_rtas()
Smatch warns:
arch/powerpc/kernel/rtas.c:1932 __do_sys_rtas() warn: potential
spectre issue 'args.args' [r] (local cap)
The 'nargs' and 'nret' locals come directly from a user-supplied
buffer and are used as indexes into a small stack-based array and as
inputs to copy_to_user() after they are subject to bounds checks.
Use array_index_nospec() after the bounds checks to clamp these values
for speculative execution.
Severity
No CVSS data available.

Title
userfaultfd: fix checks for huge PMDs
Summary
In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved:
userfaultfd: fix checks for huge PMDs
Patch series "userfaultfd: fix races around pmd_trans_huge() check", v2.
The pmd_trans_huge() code in mfill_atomic() is wrong in three different
ways depending on kernel version:
1. The pmd_trans_huge() check is racy and can lead to a BUG_ON() (if you hit
the right two race windows) - I've tested this in a kernel build with
some extra mdelay() calls. See the commit message for a description
of the race scenario.
On older kernels (before 6.5), I think the same bug can even
theoretically lead to accessing transhuge page contents as a page table
if you hit the right 5 narrow race windows (I haven't tested this case).
2. As pointed out by Qi Zheng, pmd_trans_huge() is not sufficient for
detecting PMDs that don't point to page tables.
On older kernels (before 6.5), you'd just have to win a single fairly
wide race to hit this.
I've tested this on 6.1 stable by racing migration (with a mdelay()
patched into try_to_migrate()) against UFFDIO_ZEROPAGE - on my x86
VM, that causes a kernel oops in ptlock_ptr().
3. On newer kernels (>=6.5), for shmem mappings, khugepaged is allowed
to yank page tables out from under us (though I haven't tested that),
so I think the BUG_ON() checks in mfill_atomic() are just wrong.
I decided to write two separate fixes for these (one fix for bugs 1+2, one
fix for bug 3), so that the first fix can be backported to kernels
affected by bugs 1+2.
This patch (of 2):
This fixes two issues.
I discovered that the following race can occur:
mfill_atomic other thread
============ ============
<zap PMD>
pmdp_get_lockless() [reads none pmd]
<bail if trans_huge>
<if none:>
<pagefault creates transhuge zeropage>
__pte_alloc [no-op]
<zap PMD>
<bail if pmd_trans_huge(*dst_pmd)>
BUG_ON(pmd_none(*dst_pmd))
I have experimentally verified this in a kernel with extra mdelay() calls;
the BUG_ON(pmd_none(*dst_pmd)) triggers.
On kernels newer than commit 0d940a9b270b ("mm/pgtable: allow
pte_offset_map[_lock]() to fail"), this can't lead to anything worse than
a BUG_ON(), since the page table access helpers are actually designed to
deal with page tables concurrently disappearing; but on older kernels
(<=6.4), I think we could probably theoretically race past the two
BUG_ON() checks and end up treating a hugepage as a page table.
The second issue is that, as Qi Zheng pointed out, there are other types
of huge PMDs that pmd_trans_huge() can't catch: devmap PMDs and swap PMDs
(in particular, migration PMDs).
On <=6.4, this is worse than the first issue: If mfill_atomic() runs on a
PMD that contains a migration entry (which just requires winning a single,
fairly wide race), it will pass the PMD to pte_offset_map_lock(), which
assumes that the PMD points to a page table.
Breakage follows: First, the kernel tries to take the PTE lock (which will
crash or maybe worse if there is no "struct page" for the address bits in
the migration entry PMD - I think at least on X86 there usually is no
corresponding "struct page" thanks to the PTE inversion mitigation, amd64
looks different).
If that didn't crash, the kernel would next try to write a PTE into what
it wrongly thinks is a page table.
As part of fixing these issues, get rid of the check for pmd_trans_huge()
before __pte_alloc() - that's redundant, we're going to have to check for
that after the __pte_alloc() anyway.
Backport note: pmdp_get_lockless() is pmd_read_atomic() in older kernels.

This requires local execution on the target system; there is no remote or adjacent network path into `mm/userfaultfd.c`.
AC:L - The attacker controls both sides of the race entirely from their own threads — one thread spins on `UFFDIO_ZEROPAGE`/`UFFDIO_COPY` while another drives `MADV_DONTNEED`/THP faults or forces PMD migration via `move_pages()`, NUMA balancing, or compaction — and the operation can be retried in a tight loop with no lockout or rate limit. The commit author characterizes the migration variant as "a single, fairly wide race," and THP is enabled in essentially all production kernel configurations.
PR:L - `userfaultfd_syscall_allowed()` returns true unconditionally when `UFFD_USER_MODE_ONLY` is set, so any unprivileged local user obtains a userfaultfd regardless of `CAP_SYS_PTRACE` or the `vm.unprivileged_userfaultfd` sysctl; on kernels in the affected range below 5.11 the syscall was unrestricted or defaulted to permitted. `validate_dst_vma()` only requires the target VMA to be uffd-registered, which the attacker does to their own mapping.
UI:N - The attacker's own threads perform every step — creating the uffd, registering the VMA, and racing the ioctl against PMD teardown/migration. No hypervisor, IOMMU, or other trust boundary is crossed.
C:H - On kernels ≤6.4 the kernel passes a migration/huge PMD to `pte_offset_map_lock()` and then writes a PTE into memory that is actually transhuge page contents the attacker has mapped, disclosing kernel-generated physical addresses and PTE flags. The resulting page-table-injection primitive can be leveraged into arbitrary physical memory reads.
I:H - `set_pte_at()` writes a PTE into non-page-table memory at an attacker-influenced location, and `spin_lock()` is taken on a wild `ptlock_ptr()` derived from attacker-influenced PFN bits — both are kernel write primitives. Injecting attacker-controlled data into a structure used as a page table is a well-known route to arbitrary write and full control-flow hijack.
A:H - The race reliably reaches `BUG_ON(pmd_none(*dst_pmd))`, which the author experimentally verified, and the migration-PMD variant produced a confirmed kernel oops in `ptlock_ptr()` on 6.1 stable. Either outcome is a kernel panic/oops, and it can be triggered repeatedly by any local user."

Title
ext4: aovid use-after-free in ext4_ext_insert_extent()
Summary
In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved:
ext4: aovid use-after-free in ext4_ext_insert_extent()
As Ojaswin mentioned in Link, in ext4_ext_insert_extent(), if the path is
reallocated in ext4_ext_create_new_leaf(), we'll use the stale path and
cause UAF. Below is a sample trace with dummy values:
ext4_ext_insert_extent
path = *ppath = 2000
ext4_ext_create_new_leaf(ppath)
ext4_find_extent(ppath)
path = *ppath = 2000
if (depth > path[0].p_maxdepth)
kfree(path = 2000);
*ppath = path = NULL;
path = kcalloc() = 3000
*ppath = 3000;
return path;
/* here path is still 2000, UAF! */
eh = path[depth].p_hdr
AV:L - The vulnerable code is reached only through local filesystem operations — write(2)/writeback via ext4_do_writepages → ext4_map_blocks → ext4_ext_map_blocks, direct I/O, and fallocate(2) — on a mounted ext4 volume. ext4 is a local filesystem subsystem with no network protocol handler in the path.
AC:L - This is a deterministic stale-pointer logic bug, not a race: the attacker fully controls file fragmentation and therefore the extent-tree depth that forces ext4_ext_create_new_leaf() → ext4_ext_grow_indepth() → the reallocating ext4_find_extent(). The attacker also picks the depth so the freed kcalloc(depth+2, 48) object and the replacement land in different kmalloc size classes, leaving the freed object reclaimable by their own spraying thread.
PR:L - There is no capable() or CAP_* check anywhere in fs/ext4/extents.c; any unprivileged local user with write access to an ext4 filesystem (/tmp, /home, Android /data, or any user-writable mount) reaches ext4_ext_insert_extent() with plain write() and fallocate() calls. No user-namespace trick or elevated privilege is needed.
UI:N - The attacker triggers the entire sequence with their own syscalls on their own files on an already-mounted filesystem. No victim action such as mounting a crafted image or opening a supplied file is required.
S:U - The use-after-free is confined to the kernel's own slab memory and the ext4 extent path array, so all impact stays within the kernel security authority on the same host. No hypervisor, IOMMU, or sandbox boundary is crossed.
C:H - The freed path array is a general-cache kmalloc object the attacker can reclaim and populate via heap spraying, giving control over path[depth].p_hdr, p_ext and p_bh, which are dereferenced as kernel pointers for extent-header and buffer_head reads. Per use-after-free scoring guidance this reclaim-and-read primitive is treated as arbitrary kernel memory disclosure.
I:H - Unlike a read-only UAF, the post-free code writes through the stale pointers: memmove(nearex+1, nearex, len * sizeof(struct ext4_extent)) with attacker-influenced source, destination and length, le16_add_cpu(&eh->eh_entries, 1), a 12-byte extent store of attacker-chosen logical/physical block values, and ext4_ext_get_access()/ext4_ext_dirty() on a stale buffer_head fed into jbd2. That is a controlled kernel write primitive suitable for privilege escalation.
A:H - Dereferencing the freed path array in the writeback path yields a garbage extent header and buffer_head, producing the KASAN slab-use-after-free oops shown in the commit message, or a panic from the subsequent memmove and journal operations. Any use-after-free reliably crashes the kernel even when not fully weaponized."

Title
ext4: fix timer use-after-free on failed mount
Summary
In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved:
ext4: fix timer use-after-free on failed mount
Syzbot has found an ODEBUG bug in ext4_fill_super
The del_timer_sync function cancels the s_err_report timer,
which reminds about filesystem errors daily. We should
guarantee the timer is no longer active before kfree(sbi).
When filesystem mounting fails, the flow goes to failed_mount3,
where an error occurs when ext4_stop_mmpd is called, causing
a read I/O failure. This triggers the ext4_handle_error function
that ultimately re-arms the timer,
leaving the s_err_report timer active before kfree(sbi) is called.
Fix the issue by canceling the s_err_report timer after calling ext4_stop_mmpd.

There is no remote or network-facing entry point into `ext4_fill_super()`.
AC:L - The attacker fully controls the crafted image: enabling the MMP feature starts kmmpd, and planting a later-stage mount failure plus an unreadable/corrupt MMP block deterministically drives `ext4_stop_mmpd()` → `ext4_error_err()` → `mod_timer()` after the timer was already cancelled. syzbot reproduced it reliably; no race or uncontrolled memory-layout condition is involved.
PR:N - The attacker supplies only a malicious filesystem image or removable device and needs no account on the target; the privileged mount is performed by the victim or by an automounter (udisks2/autofs) acting on their behalf.
UI:R - Because ext4 is not FS_USERNS_MOUNT, someone with CAP_SYS_ADMIN (or a desktop automount daemon reacting to inserted media) must actually mount the attacker-supplied image for the failed-mount cleanup path to run.
S:U - The freed `ext4_sb_info` and the stale timer both live in the kernel's own security authority; exploitation yields kernel-level compromise but does not cross a hypervisor, IOMMU, or sandbox boundary.
C:H - The armed `s_err_report` timer_list points into freed slab memory, so reallocating that object gives the attacker a use-after-free with control over the freed contents, which is leverageable into arbitrary kernel memory disclosure.
I:H - The stale timer wheel entry is both an hlist_node and a `->function` pointer read out of attacker-reallocatable memory, giving list-corruption write and control-flow-hijack primitives executed from softirq context.
A:H - The use-after-free reliably produces an ODEBUG/KASAN splat and, in production kernels, timer-wheel corruption leading to an oops or panic when the freed object is reused or the timer expires."

Title
drm/amd/display: fix double free issue during amdgpu module unload
Summary
In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved:
drm/amd/display: fix double free issue during amdgpu module unload
Flexible endpoints use DIGs from available inflexible endpoints,
so only the encoders of inflexible links need to be freed.
Otherwise, a double free issue may occur when unloading the
amdgpu module.

This is because TFM is being used in parallel.
Fix this by allocating a new AEAD TFM for async decryption, but keep
the existing one for synchronous READ cases (similar to what is done
in smb3_calc_signature()).
Also remove the calls to aead_request_set_callback() and
crypto_wait_req() since it's always going to be a synchronous operation.
AV:N - The UAF occurs while the CIFS/SMB3 client decrypts transform-encrypted READ responses received from a remote SMB server over TCP/445, on data (transform header, message size, nonce, ciphertext) fully supplied by that peer. A malicious, compromised, or MITM'd server drives the vulnerable path remotely, and can itself force encryption on via SMB2_SESSION_FLAG_ENCRYPT_DATA / SHI1005_FLAGS_ENCRYPT_DATA.
AC:L - The server controls both sides of the race by pipelining multiple large encrypted READ responses, guaranteeing concurrent smb3decryptd workers on the shared TFM; the commit's reproducer is an ordinary `dd` of a large file, so the corruption occurs deterministically in normal operation rather than requiring a rare window.
PR:N - The remote SMB server needs no privileges on the client to send the encrypted read responses that trigger the parallel TFM use, and locally any unprivileged user with read access to the mounted share can issue the concurrent large reads.
UI:N - No victim action is needed beyond an already-established mount; the UAF fires during routine background file reads on the existing connection.
S:U - The corruption is confined to kernel memory within the same security authority; no VM, IOMMU, or sandbox boundary is crossed.
C:H - Freed slab memory (the gf128mul ghash key table and TFM context) is read by the crypto engine, and heap grooming lets an attacker place chosen objects there for arbitrary kernel memory disclosure; cross-worker key clobbering can also expose data decrypted under the wrong session key.
I:H - The crypto transform writes into the freed, reallocated slab object, giving a heap write primitive over attacker-groomable memory that is leveragable for control-flow hijack, and concurrent setkey/setauthsize corrupt in-flight crypto state.
A:H - The use-after-free reliably produces a KASAN slab-use-after-free and kernel oops in the smb3decryptd workqueue, panicking or hanging the client; it can be retriggered at will."
