AV:L - The vulnerability is triggered through the local `bpf(BPF_PROG_TEST_RUN)` syscall with `BPF_F_TEST_XDP_LIVE_FRAMES` and a short `data_size_in`; no network input reaches this code. Per kernel scoring guidance, BPF syscall-reachable bugs are Local.
AC:L - The attacker fully controls `data_size_in`, `batch_size`, `repeat` and the XDP program, so the out-of-range read is triggered deterministically on every invocation with no race to win. Page-pool pages are freshly allocated non-zeroed pages, and the attacker can groom which freed pages get recycled by freeing chosen content immediately beforehand.
PR:L - `bpf_prog_test_run()` performs no capability check whatsoever — the only gate is possession of an XDP program fd, which an unprivileged process can obtain via a delegated BPF token (`bpf_token_capable()` falls back to `ns_capable(token->userns, ...)`) or a bpffs pin, since `bpf_obj_do_get()` checks only file permissions. Loading a fresh XDP program needs CAP_BPF+CAP_NET_ADMIN, but that is a container/namespace-level privilege rather than real init-namespace root, so Low is the appropriate and higher-severity choice.
UI:N - The attacker performs the entire sequence itself via the `bpf()` syscall; no victim action, mount, or file open is needed. The XDP frames are looped straight back into the local receive path by the test-run machinery.
S:U - The stale-memory read, the disclosed data, and the resulting malformed skb all remain within the kernel's own security authority. No hypervisor, IOMMU, or sandbox boundary is crossed.
C:H - `eth_skb_pkt_type()`/`eth_type_trans()` read the contents of a previously-freed page, and the derived `skb->protocol` and `skb->pkt_type` are directly readable by an `AF_PACKET` observer on loopback, giving a repeatable, unbounded oracle over recycled kernel memory that may contain pointers, keys, or user data. Per guidance, use-after-free reads of freed memory are scored High.
I:H - Contents of freed memory — which the attacker can influence through heap grooming — become the Ethernet header that determines `skb->protocol` and `skb->pkt_type` for a frame injected into the local network stack via `netif_receive_skb_list()`, corrupting packet classification and delivery. Per guidance, use-after-free conditions are scored High for integrity.
A:H - The kernel dereferences memory beyond the initialized frame and hands a geometrically invalid skb (`skb->len < ETH_HLEN`, `mac_header == network_header`, `mac_len == 0`) to protocol handlers that assume `eth_type_trans()` pulled the header, and on hardened/KASAN/KMSAN builds the freed-page access itself is a fatal memory-error report. Per guidance, any use-after-free is scored High for availability.
In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved:

net: fix udp gso skb_segment after pull from frag_list

Commit a1e40ac5b5e9 ("net: gso: fix udp gso fraglist segmentation after
pull from frag_list") detected invalid geometry in frag_list skbs and
redirects them from skb_segment_list to more robust skb_segment. But some
packets with modified geometry can also hit bugs in that code. We don't
know how many such cases exist. Addressing each one by one also requires
touching the complex skb_segment code, which risks introducing bugs for
other types of skbs. Instead, linearize all these packets that fail the
basic invariants on gso fraglist skbs. That is more robust.

If only part of the fraglist payload is pulled into head_skb, it will
always cause exception when splitting skbs by skb_segment. For detailed
call stack information, see below.

Valid SKB_GSO_FRAGLIST skbs
- consist of two or more segments
- the head_skb holds the protocol headers plus first gso_size
- one or more frag_list skbs hold exactly one segment
- all but the last must be gso_size

Optional datapath hooks such as NAT and BPF (bpf_skb_pull_data) can
modify fraglist skbs, breaking these invariants.

In extreme cases they pull one part of data into skb linear. For UDP,
this causes three payloads with lengths of (11,11,10) bytes were
pulled tail to become (12,10,10) bytes.

The skbs no longer meets the above SKB_GSO_FRAGLIST conditions because
payload was pulled into head_skb, it needs to be linearized before pass
to regular skb_segment.

skb_segment+0xcd0/0xd14
__udp_gso_segment+0x334/0x5f4
udp4_ufo_fragment+0x118/0x15c
inet_gso_segment+0x164/0x338
skb_mac_gso_segment+0xc4/0x13c
__skb_gso_segment+0xc4/0x124
validate_xmit_skb+0x9c/0x2c0
validate_xmit_skb_list+0x4c/0x80
sch_direct_xmit+0x70/0x404
__dev_queue_xmit+0x64c/0xe5c
neigh_resolve_output+0x178/0x1c4
ip_finish_output2+0x37c/0x47c
__ip_finish_output+0x194/0x240
ip_finish_output+0x20/0xf4
ip_output+0x100/0x1a0
NF_HOOK+0xc4/0x16c
ip_forward+0x314/0x32c
ip_rcv+0x90/0x118
__netif_receive_skb+0x74/0x124
process_backlog+0xe8/0x1a4
__napi_poll+0x5c/0x1f8
net_rx_action+0x154/0x314
handle_softirqs+0x154/0x4b8

[118.376811] [C201134] rxq0_pus: [name:bug&]kernel BUG at net/core/skbuff.c:4278!
[118.376829] [C201134] rxq0_pus: [name:traps&]Internal error: Oops - BUG: 00000000f2000800 [#1] PREEMPT SMP
[118.470774] [C201134] rxq0_pus: [name:mrdump&]Kernel Offset: 0x178cc00000 from 0xffffffc008000000
[118.470810] [C201134] rxq0_pus: [name:mrdump&]PHYS_OFFSET: 0x40000000
[118.470827] [C201134] rxq0_pus: [name:mrdump&]pstate: 60400005 (nZCv daif +PAN -UAO)
[118.470848] [C201134] rxq0_pus: [name:mrdump&]pc : [0xffffffd79598aefc] skb_segment+0xcd0/0xd14
[118.470900] [C201134] rxq0_pus: [name:mrdump&]lr : [0xffffffd79598a5e8] skb_segment+0x3bc/0xd14
[118.470928] [C201134] rxq0_pus: [name:mrdump&]sp : ffffffc008013770
AV:N - The vulnerable skb geometry is created entirely from attacker-supplied UDP packets aggregated by GRO on the ingress device, and the crash occurs when that skb is re-segmented on the forwarding/transmit path — no local access is involved. Any remote host that can get UDP datagrams routed through an affected gateway, router, or Android hotspot reaches the code.
AC:L - The attacker fully controls the only variable that matters — the UDP payload sizes that determine the fraglist geometry — and can simply send a burst of small same-flow datagrams, trivially brute-forcing size combinations; the commit states such packets "will always cause exception" in skb_segment. The remaining preconditions (rx-gro-list plus an in-path NAT/XLAT-BPF hook) are properties of the target's vulnerable configuration, which is a shipping default on MediaTek/Android tethering and embedded router deployments where this was found in production.
PR:N - There is no authentication, socket, or credential involved anywhere on the path — GRO aggregation, ip_forward, and validate_xmit_skb all run in softirq on packets from an arbitrary unauthenticated peer. The attacker merely needs their UDP traffic to transit the box.
UI:N - Exploitation is purely a matter of sending UDP datagrams through the forwarding device; no local user or administrator has to open, mount, or interact with anything.
S:U - The BUG()/panic occurs in the kernel that is processing the packets, and the impact is confined to that same security authority. No hypervisor, IOMMU, or sandbox boundary is crossed.
C:N - The failure is a defensive BUG_ON/skb_over_panic assertion in skb_segment that fires before any out-of-bounds copy, slab-page refcount manipulation, or frag descriptor is acted on, so no memory contents are read or exposed. Segments emitted prior to the panic contain only bytes from the attacker's own packet.
I:N - The assertions abort segmentation before the malformed geometry can produce an out-of-bounds write, an incorrectly built skb, or a corrupted page reference, so no kernel memory or system data is modified. There is no write primitive an attacker can steer.
A:H - Hitting the BUG_ON in skb_segment from NAPI/softirq context produces an Oops/kernel panic ("kernel BUG at net/core/skbuff.c") that takes down the entire forwarding device, and it can be re-triggered at will by simply resending the traffic. This is a complete, remotely repeatable denial of service on routers, gateways, and tethering devices.
In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved:

Bluetooth: hci_core: Fix use-after-free in vhci_flush()

syzbot reported use-after-free in vhci_flush() without repro. [0]

From the splat, a thread close()d a vhci file descriptor while
its device was being used by iotcl() on another thread.

Once the last fd refcnt is released, vhci_release() calls
hci_unregister_dev(), hci_free_dev(), and kfree() for struct
vhci_data, which is set to hci_dev->dev->driver_data.

The problem is that there is no synchronisation after unlinking
hdev from hci_dev_list in hci_unregister_dev(). There might be
another thread still accessing the hdev which was fetched before
the unlink operation.

We can use SRCU for such synchronisation.

Let's run hci_dev_reset() under SRCU and wait for its completion
in hci_unregister_dev().

Another option would be to restore hci_dev->destruct(), which was
removed in commit 587ae086f6e4 ("Bluetooth: Remove unused
hci-destruct cb"). However, this would not be a good solution, as
we should not run hci_unregister_dev() while there are in-flight
ioctl() requests, which could lead to another data-race KCSAN splat.

Note that other drivers seem to have the same problem, for exmaple,
virtbt_remove().

[0]:
BUG: KASAN: slab-use-after-free in skb_queue_empty_lockless include/linux/skbuff.h:1891 [inline]
BUG: KASAN: slab-use-after-free in skb_queue_purge_reason+0x99/0x360 net/core/skbuff.c:3937
Read of size 8 at addr ffff88807cb8d858 by task syz.1.219/6718

CPU: 1 UID: 0 PID: 6718 Comm: syz.1.219 Not tainted 6.16.0-rc1-syzkaller-00196-g08207f42d3ff #0 PREEMPT(full)
Hardware name: Google Google Compute Engine/Google Compute Engine, BIOS Google 05/07/2025
Call Trace:
<TASK>
dump_stack_lvl+0x189/0x250 lib/dump_stack.c:120
print_address_description mm/kasan/report.c:408 [inline]
print_report+0xd2/0x2b0 mm/kasan/report.c:521
kasan_report+0x118/0x150 mm/kasan/report.c:634
skb_queue_empty_lockless include/linux/skbuff.h:1891 [inline]
skb_queue_purge_reason+0x99/0x360 net/core/skbuff.c:3937
skb_queue_purge include/linux/skbuff.h:3368 [inline]
vhci_flush+0x44/0x50 drivers/bluetooth/hci_vhci.c:69
hci_dev_do_reset net/bluetooth/hci_core.c:552 [inline]
hci_dev_reset+0x420/0x5c0 net/bluetooth/hci_core.c:592
sock_do_ioctl+0xd9/0x300 net/socket.c:1190
sock_ioctl+0x576/0x790 net/socket.c:1311
vfs_ioctl fs/ioctl.c:51 [inline]
__do_sys_ioctl fs/ioctl.c:907 [inline]
__se_sys_ioctl+0xf9/0x170 fs/ioctl.c:893
do_syscall_x64 arch/x86/entry/syscall_64.c:63 [inline]
do_syscall_64+0xfa/0x3b0 arch/x86/entry/syscall_64.c:94
entry_SYSCALL_64_after_hwframe+0x77/0x7f
RIP: 0033:0x7fcf5b98e929
Code: ff ff c3 66 2e 0f 1f 84 00 00 00 00 00 0f 1f 40 00 48 89 f8 48 89 f7 48 89 d6 48 89 ca 4d 89 c2 4d 89 c8 4c 8b 4c 24 08 0f 05 <48> 3d 01 f0 ff ff 73 01 c3 48 c7 c1 a8 ff ff ff f7 d8 64 89 01 48
RSP: 002b:00007fcf5c7b9038 EFLAGS: 00000246 ORIG_RAX: 0000000000000010
RAX: ffffffffffffffda RBX: 00007fcf5bbb6160 RCX: 00007fcf5b98e929
RDX: 0000000000000000 RSI: 00000000400448cb RDI: 0000000000000009
RBP: 00007fcf5ba10b39 R08: 0000000000000000 R09: 0000000000000000
R10: 0000000000000000 R11: 0000000000000246 R12: 0000000000000000
R13: 0000000000000000 R14: 00007fcf5bbb6160 R15: 00007ffd6353d528
</TASK>

Allocated by task 6535:
kasan_save_stack mm/kasan/common.c:47 [inline]
kasan_save_track+0x3e/0x80 mm/kasan/common.c:68
poison_kmalloc_redzone mm/kasan/common.c:377 [inline]
__kasan_kmalloc+0x93/0xb0 mm/kasan/common.c:394
kasan_kmalloc include/linux/kasan.h:260 [inline]
__kmalloc_cache_noprof+0x230/0x3d0 mm/slub.c:4359
kmalloc_noprof include/linux/slab.h:905 [inline]
kzalloc_noprof include/linux/slab.h:1039 [inline]
vhci_open+0x57/0x360 drivers/bluetooth/hci_vhci.c:635
misc_open+0x2bc/0x330 drivers/char/misc.c:161
chrdev_open+0x4c9/0x5e0 fs/char_dev.c:414
do_dentry_open+0xdf0/0x1970 fs/open.c:964
vfs_open+0x3b/0x340 fs/open.c:1094
do_open fs/namei.c:3887 [inline]
path_openat+0x2ee5/0x3830 fs/name
---truncated---
AV:L - Although this is the Bluetooth subsystem, the vulnerable path is not reachable from over-the-air traffic — it requires a local `ioctl(HCIDEVRESET)` on an AF_BLUETOOTH HCI socket raced against a local `close()` of the transport fd (or driver removal). Both sides of the race are local syscalls.
AC:L - The attacker controls both racing threads (close of the vhci fd vs. the HCIDEVRESET ioctl) and the window is large, spanning the full `hci_dev_close_sync()`/`hci_dev_open_sync()` command-sync sequence inside `hci_dev_do_reset()`. Failed attempts are harmless and can be repeated indefinitely until the race is won.
PR:L - `HCIDEVRESET` is gated on `capable(CAP_NET_ADMIN)`, a capability held by non-root service accounts such as bluetoothd and Android's Bluetooth process rather than requiring full init-namespace root, and this repo consistently scores CAP_NET_ADMIN-gated Bluetooth mgmt/ioctl bugs as PR:L. The free side additionally needs no privilege at all when supplied by ordinary transport-driver teardown (btusb/hci_ldisc/virtio_bt unregister).
UI:N - The attacker drives both the reset ioctl and the device teardown from its own threads with no victim participation. No user action of any kind is needed.
S:U - The use-after-free corrupts kernel heap memory and yields kernel-privilege compromise within the same security authority. No VM, IOMMU, or sandbox boundary is crossed.
C:H - This is a slab use-after-free on a `kmalloc-1k` object; `skb_queue_purge_reason()` reads the freed `sk_buff_head` and dereferences pointers taken from it, so an attacker who reclaims the slot obtains an arbitrary kernel-memory read primitive and full disclosure of kernel memory.
I:H - The UAF is read *and* write: `skb_queue_splice_init()` writes back into the freed object and `kfree_skb()` is invoked on attacker-reclaimable pointers, while `vhci_send_frame()` performs `skb_queue_tail()` into freed memory. That combination gives a controlled-free and linked-list-write primitive suitable for control-flow hijacking and privilege escalation.
A:H - Even without successful heap grooming, purging a freed skb queue and freeing garbage pointers reliably corrupts the slab allocator and panics the kernel. The attacker can trigger it repeatedly for a persistent denial of service.
AV:N - The vulnerable code is the kTLS receive strparser, driven directly from the TCP `sk_data_ready` softirq hook and from `recvmsg()` on data supplied by the remote TLS peer. A remote attacker triggers it purely by choosing TLS record framing and TCP segment sizes/timing on an ordinary connection to a kTLS-enabled service.
AC:L - The attacker controls every side of the condition — the record header that sets `stm.full_len`, the many small/large segments that push `sk_rmem_alloc` past `sk_rcvbuf` to force `tcp_collapse()` to free the anchored skb, and the final segment that makes `inq >= full_len` — and can retry indefinitely across parallel connections. It was hit by the plain in-tree `tls` selftest, not an exotic race.
PR:N - The attacker is the remote peer of a TLS connection and needs no account or privilege on the target; kTLS servers (nginx/HAProxy with kTLS offload, TLS-terminating proxies) accept connections from anonymous clients and enable `TLS_RX` right after the handshake.
UI:N - The victim application merely receives data on an already-established kTLS socket; the strparser runs from softirq on packet arrival with no local user action required.
S:U - The corruption is confined to kernel skb/slab memory of the affected host, with no crossing of a VM, IOMMU, or sandbox security authority.
C:H - This is a slab use-after-free read: freed skb metadata is read, and the attacker-influenced `skb->next` chain lets the loop walk into reallocated memory, giving an arbitrary-address read oracle via the true/false result; freed pages are further fed into the AEAD scatterlist by `skb_to_sgvec()`.
I:H - Use-after-free with heap grooming yields write primitives — `tls_strp_msg_hold()` performs `skb_clone()` on the freed skbs, writing refcounts into reallocated objects, and the stale `frag_list` drives crypto operations over freed memory, which is exploitable for control-flow hijacking.
A:H - KASAN confirms a slab-use-after-free, and the unbounded `skb = skb->next` walk over freed memory readily faults on a wild pointer, producing a kernel oops/panic that a remote attacker can trigger repeatedly."
