Title
Openstack-network-exporter: basic-auth uses plaintext password storage and non-constant-time comparison
Summary
A flaw was found in openstack-network-exporter. When an operator configures user authentication but omits or misconfigures Transport Layer Security (TLS), the basic authentication mechanism is silently bypassed. This fail-open design allows an adjacent network attacker to access sensitive Open vSwitch (OVS) and Open Virtual Network (OVN) dataplane metrics without credentials. Consequently, an attacker can enumerate bridge names, port counters, OVN controller state, and host topology, leading to information disclosure.

This can be achieved by configuring firewall rules to block external access to port 1981 or by explicitly setting the `HttpListen` configuration to `127.0.0.1:1981` to bind only to the localhost interface. If the `HttpListen` configuration is changed, the `openstack-network-exporter` service may require a restart or reload for the changes to take effect."

The MITRE ATT&CK techniques below are AI-generated suggestions, inferred from the description of the
vulnerability by the CIRCL/vulnerability-attack-technique-classification-roberta-base
model, served locally by ML-Gateway.
They have not been verified by an analyst and are provided for guidance only.
The approach is described in our paper Mapping CVEs to MITRE ATT&CK Techniques: A Curated Gold-Set Classifier and the Limits of LLM-Assisted Label Expansion.
