AV:N - The bug is in the in-kernel NFS server's NFSv4 COMPOUND processing, triggered entirely by attacker-supplied RPC data arriving on TCP port 2049. No local access is needed — a crafted COMPOUND from any host that can reach nfsd is sufficient.
AC:L - Within the vulnerable configuration (nfsd read tracepoints enabled, the configuration CVSS directs us to score), a single well-formed `COMPOUND{READ}` with no preceding PUTFH triggers the NULL dereference deterministically — no race, no memory-layout dependency, no timing window, and the attacker fully controls the request.
PR:N - The crash occurs before any authorization gate: no filehandle, no stateid, no session/clientid, and no export access check is reached, and AUTH_SYS verifies no credentials. The NFSv4.1 `nfserr_op_not_in_session` path (nfs4proc.c:3087-3093) fires before session establishment, making this a pre-authentication code path.
UI:N - The attacker sends the malformed COMPOUND directly to the NFS server; no administrator or client-side action is required at exploitation time.
S:U - The NULL dereference oops occurs in the nfsd kthread within the kernel's own security authority; no VM, IOMMU, or sandbox boundary is crossed.
C:N - `nfsd4_decode_read()` memsets the whole `struct nfsd4_read`, so `rd_rqstp`/`rd_fhp` are guaranteed NULL rather than stale pointers — the fault occurs on the first access and no data is read into the trace buffer or otherwise disclosed.
I:N - The tracepoint's `TP_fast_assign` performs only loads from the NULL pointers; there is no out-of-bounds or use-after-free write and no control-flow hijack primitive.
A:H - A NULL pointer dereference oops kills the nfsd kernel thread mid-compound (leaking the unreleased current_fh/save_fh references), and the request can be replayed to exhaust every nfsd thread; with panic_on_oops set it is an immediate kernel panic."

Experimental. This forecast is provided for visualization only and may change without notice. Do not use it for operational decisions.
Forecast uses a logistic model when the trend is rising, or an exponential decay model when the trend is falling. Fitted via linearized least squares.

The MITRE ATT&CK techniques below are AI-generated suggestions, inferred from the description of the
vulnerability by the CIRCL/vulnerability-attack-technique-classification-roberta-base
model, served locally by ML-Gateway.
They have not been verified by an analyst and are provided for guidance only.
The approach is described in our paper Mapping CVEs to MITRE ATT&CK Techniques: A Curated Gold-Set Classifier and the Limits of LLM-Assisted Label Expansion.
Browse all ATT&CK techniques and the vulnerabilities related to each.

Related by attack behaviour
Vulnerabilities whose description is nearest to this one in the vector space of the CIRCL/vulnerability-attack-technique-biencoder model. This is a similarity search over the bi-encoder space (plain cosine), not a classification, and it has no measured accuracy.
