Title
net/sched: mqprio: fix stack out-of-bounds write in tc entry parsing
Summary
In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved:
net/sched: mqprio: fix stack out-of-bounds write in tc entry parsing
TCA_MQPRIO_TC_ENTRY_INDEX is validated using
NLA_POLICY_MAX(NLA_U32, TC_QOPT_MAX_QUEUE), which allows the value
TC_QOPT_MAX_QUEUE (16). This leads to a 4-byte out-of-bounds stack
write in the fp[] array, which only has room for 16 elements (0–15).
Fix this by changing the policy to allow only up to TC_QOPT_MAX_QUEUE - 1.

"value": "AV:L - The vulnerability is reached only through an RTM_NEWQDISC rtnetlink message on an AF_NETLINK socket, i.e. a local syscall interface. Per kernel scoring guidance, tc/netlink qdisc configuration paths are Local.\nAC:L - A single crafted netlink message with TCA_MQPRIO_TC_ENTRY_INDEX=16 deterministically triggers the out-of-bounds write; there is no race, no memory-layout guess, and no timing dependency. The only prerequisite is a multiqueue netdev implementing ndo_setup_tc, which is true of essentially every hardware NIC, DSA user port, and mac80211 wlan interface.\nPR:L - Triggering requires CAP_NET_ADMIN in the target network namespace, which per kernel scoring guidance for tc/qdisc paths is rated Low rather than High. Realistic low-privilege holders include containers granted NET_ADMIN over a namespace holding an SR-IOV VF or passed-through NIC, and non-root TSN/network configuration daemons on automotive and industrial systems.\nUI:N - The attacker performs the entire operation themselves via a netlink socket write; no victim action, mount, or file open is needed.\nS:U - The corruption occurs on the kernel stack of the calling task and stays within the kernel\u0027s own security authority. No VM, IOMMU, or sandbox boundary is crossed.\nC:H - The bug corrupts kernel stack memory beyond the fp[] array, damaging adjacent frame state such as saved registers, the canary, or the in-flight netlink attribute iterator. Such kernel memory corruption is treated as leverageable toward information disclosure, so the higher rating is taken.\nI:H - This is an out-of-bounds write into the kernel stack frame at an attacker-selected trigger point, overwriting data the attacker was never permitted to modify. Out-of-bounds writes are rated High for integrity.\nA:H - On stack-protector kernels (the default for distro, Android, and automotive builds) the write lands on the canary region, so returning from mqprio_parse_tc_entries invokes __stack_chk_fail(), which calls panic() and brings the machine down unrecoverably. Even without the stack protector, the corrupted frame state causes a kernel oops."

"value": "In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved:\n\nnet/sched: mqprio: fix stack out-of-bounds write in tc entry parsing\n\nTCA_MQPRIO_TC_ENTRY_INDEX is validated using\nNLA_POLICY_MAX(NLA_U32, TC_QOPT_MAX_QUEUE), which allows the value\nTC_QOPT_MAX_QUEUE (16). This leads to a 4-byte out-of-bounds stack\nwrite in the fp[] array, which only has room for 16 elements (0\u201315).\n\nFix this by changing the policy to allow only up to TC_QOPT_MAX_QUEUE - 1."

The MITRE ATT&CK techniques below are AI-generated suggestions, inferred from the description of the
vulnerability by the CIRCL/vulnerability-attack-technique-classification-roberta-base
model, served locally by ML-Gateway.
They have not been verified by an analyst and are provided for guidance only.
The approach is described in our paper Mapping CVEs to MITRE ATT&CK Techniques: A Curated Gold-Set Classifier and the Limits of LLM-Assisted Label Expansion.

Vulnerabilities whose description is nearest to this one in the vector space of the CIRCL/vulnerability-attack-technique-biencoder model. This is a similarity search over the bi-encoder space (plain cosine), not a classification, and it has no measured accuracy.
