nvme: avoid double free special payload
Summary
In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved:
nvme: avoid double free special payload
If a discard request needs to be retried, and that retry may fail before
a new special payload is added, a double free will result. Clear the
RQF_SPECIAL_LOAD when the request is cleaned.

A malicious or compromised target \u2014 or an attacker injecting into a plaintext NVMe/TCP session on port 4420 \u2014 reaches this entirely over the network.\nAC:L - The remote peer deterministically controls both steps: return a non-DNR, non-path-related error status for a DSM/discard command to force the requeue, then close the connection so the re-dispatch hits nvme_fail_nonready_command()-\u003envme_host_path_error(). The requeue-to-reconnect window is seconds, so no race must be won and no uncontrolled state is required.\nPR:N - NVMe/TCP has no authentication or transport security in its default configuration, so the attacking target or network peer holds no credentials on the victim host. The host-side discards that carry the special payload are produced by routine filesystem activity, not by any privileged attacker action.\nUI:N - No victim action is needed \u2014 discard requests are generated automatically by mounted filesystems, fstrim, and swap on an already-connected NVMe-oF namespace. The attacker only has to respond to one that is already in flight.\nS:U - The heap corruption is confined to the kernel\u0027s own memory allocator and the compromise stays within the kernel\u0027s security authority. No VM, IOMMU, or sandbox boundary is crossed.\nC:H - The double free re-inserts a live kmalloc-4k chunk into the freelist so two allocations receive the same memory, yielding a use-after-free/type-confusion primitive that permits reading adjacent kernel objects and leaking arbitrary kernel memory. SLUB\u0027s consecutive-double-free hardening does not catch it because many allocations occur between the two frees.\nI:H - The same overlapping-allocation primitive gives an attacker-groomable kernel write, the classic route to control-flow hijack and privilege escalation. In the shared discard_page variant, the extra clear_bit_unlock() breaks mutual exclusion so concurrent DSM commands share one range buffer and the device deallocates the wrong LBAs, silently destroying on-disk data.\nA:H - Freelist corruption from the double free reliably causes kernel panics, and where SLUB debugging/hardening does detect it the result is an immediate BUG. The trigger can be repeated on every retried discard, so the host can be crashed at will."
