AV:L - The UAF free of jsk->filters occurs only in local setsockopt(SO_J1939_FILTER) (or socket close); a remote CAN/J1939 peer can drive receive-side matching but cannot free the filter array, so the attack requires local syscall access.
AC:L - The attacker fully controls both sides of the race—concurrent SO_J1939_FILTER setsockopt threads to free/replace filters, plus AF_CAN raw sendmsg loopback (or bus traffic) to hit j1939_sk_match_filter in softirq—so success does not depend on external conditions.
PR:L - can_create()/j1939_sk_bind()/SO_J1939_FILTER impose no capability checks; on systems with an UP CAN/vcan device any unprivileged user can bind, and CAP_NET_ADMIN to create vcan is obtainable via unshare -Urn without real init-namespace root.
UI:N - The attacker opens J1939/raw sockets, sets filters, and injects frames themselves; no separate victim action is required.
S:U - Impact is a kernel slab use-after-free within the same host kernel authority (local privilege escalation), with no VM, IOMMU, or sandbox boundary crossed.
C:H - This is a slab UAF of the attacker-sized j1939_filter array (up to 512 entries); reclaiming the freed object enables reading reclaimed kernel heap contents and arbitrary-read primitives.
I:H - The same UAF is exploitable via heap spray of the freed filter allocation to obtain arbitrary write / control-flow hijacking primitives in the kernel.
A:H - Triggering the race reliably produces slab-use-after-free reads in softirq (as shown by the KASAN report in j1939_sk_recv_match_one), causing kernel oops/panic even when not fully exploited."

Drag nodes to arrange them. Double-click a related vulnerability to open it, or a source to visit its link. The Physics button on the left tunes the layout and the simulation; the legend at the bottom left hides or shows nodes by kind and by sighting type.
Experimental. This forecast is provided for visualization only and may change without notice. Do not use it for operational decisions.
Forecast uses a logistic model when the trend is rising, or an exponential decay model when the trend is falling. Fitted via linearized least squares.

The MITRE ATT&CK techniques below are AI-generated suggestions, inferred from the description of the
vulnerability by the CIRCL/vulnerability-attack-technique-classification-roberta-base
model, served locally by ML-Gateway.
They have not been verified by an analyst and are provided for guidance only.
The approach is described in our paper Mapping CVEs to MITRE ATT&CK Techniques: A Curated Gold-Set Classifier and the Limits of LLM-Assisted Label Expansion.

Vulnerabilities whose description is nearest to this one in the vector space of the CIRCL/vulnerability-attack-technique-biencoder model. This is a similarity search over the bi-encoder space (plain cosine), not a classification, and it has no measured accuracy.
