Vulnerability from github – Published: 2025-09-17 15:30 – Updated: 2025-12-11 15:30
VLAI
Details

In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved:

of/fdt: run soc memory setup when early_init_dt_scan_memory fails

If memory has been found early_init_dt_scan_memory now returns 1. If it hasn't found any memory it will return 0, allowing other memory setup mechanisms to carry on.

Previously early_init_dt_scan_memory always returned 0 without distinguishing between any kind of memory setup being done or not. Any code path after the early_init_dt_scan memory call in the ramips plat_mem_setup code wouldn't be executed anymore. Making early_init_dt_scan_memory the only way to initialize the memory.

Some boards, including my mt7621 based Cudy X6 board, depend on memory initialization being done via the soc_info.mem_detect function pointer. Those wouldn't be able to obtain memory and panic the kernel during early bootup with the message "early_init_dt_alloc_memory_arch: Failed to allocate 12416 bytes align=0x40".

Vulnerability from github – Published: 2024-05-21 18:31 – Updated: 2024-11-07 18:31
VLAI
Details

In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved:

net/usb: kalmia: Don't pass act_len in usb_bulk_msg error path

syzbot reported that act_len in kalmia_send_init_packet() is uninitialized when passing it to the first usb_bulk_msg error path. Jiri Pirko noted that it's pointless to pass it in the error path, and that the value that would be printed in the second error path would be the value of act_len from the first call to usb_bulk_msg.[1]

With this in mind, let's just not pass act_len to the usb_bulk_msg error paths.

i40e: Fix freeing of uninitialized misc IRQ vector

When VSI set up failed in i40e_probe() as part of PF switch set up driver was trying to free misc IRQ vectors in i40e_clear_interrupt_scheme and produced a kernel Oops:

Trying to free already-free IRQ 266 WARNING: CPU: 0 PID: 5 at kernel/irq/manage.c:1731 __free_irq+0x9a/0x300 Workqueue: events work_for_cpu_fn RIP: 0010:__free_irq+0x9a/0x300 Call Trace: ? synchronize_irq+0x3a/0xa0 free_irq+0x2e/0x60 i40e_clear_interrupt_scheme+0x53/0x190 [i40e] i40e_probe.part.108+0x134b/0x1a40 [i40e] ? kmem_cache_alloc+0x158/0x1c0 ? acpi_ut_update_ref_count.part.1+0x8e/0x345 ? acpi_ut_update_object_reference+0x15e/0x1e2 ? strstr+0x21/0x70 ? irq_get_irq_data+0xa/0x20 ? mp_check_pin_attr+0x13/0xc0 ? irq_get_irq_data+0xa/0x20 ? mp_map_pin_to_irq+0xd3/0x2f0 ? acpi_register_gsi_ioapic+0x93/0x170 ? pci_conf1_read+0xa4/0x100 ? pci_bus_read_config_word+0x49/0x70 ? do_pci_enable_device+0xcc/0x100 local_pci_probe+0x41/0x90 work_for_cpu_fn+0x16/0x20 process_one_work+0x1a7/0x360 worker_thread+0x1cf/0x390 ? create_worker+0x1a0/0x1a0 kthread+0x112/0x130 ? kthread_flush_work_fn+0x10/0x10 ret_from_fork+0x1f/0x40

The problem is that at that point misc IRQ vectors were not allocated yet and we get a call trace that driver is trying to free already free IRQ vectors.

Add a check in i40e_clear_interrupt_scheme for __I40E_MISC_IRQ_REQUESTED PF state before calling i40e_free_misc_vector. This state is set only if misc IRQ vectors were properly initialized.

Vulnerability from github – Published: 2024-06-19 15:30 – Updated: 2024-11-07 18:31
VLAI
Details

In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved:

media: mxl111sf: change mutex_init() location

Syzbot reported, that mxl111sf_ctrl_msg() uses uninitialized mutex. The problem was in wrong mutex_init() location.

Previous mutex_init(&state->msg_lock) call was in ->init() function, but dvb_usbv2_init() has this order of calls:

dvb_usbv2_init()
  dvb_usbv2_adapter_init()
    dvb_usbv2_adapter_frontend_init()
      props->frontend_attach()

  props->init()

Since mxl111sf_ devices call mxl111sf_ctrl_msg() in ->frontend_attach() internally we need to initialize state->msg_lock before frontend_attach(). To achieve it, ->probe() call added to all mxl111sf_ devices, which will simply initiaize mutex.

Mitigation
Implementation

Explicitly initialize the resource before use. If this is performed through an API function or standard procedure, follow all required steps.

Mitigation
Implementation

Pay close attention to complex conditionals that affect initialization, since some branches might not perform the initialization.

Mitigation
Implementation

Avoid race conditions (CWE-362) during initialization routines.

Mitigation
Build and Compilation

Run or compile the product with settings that generate warnings about uninitialized variables or data.

No CAPEC attack patterns related to this CWE.
