Details

VB-Audio Voicemeeter, Voicemeeter Banana, and Voicemeeter Potato (versions ending in 1.1.1.9, 2.1.1.9, and 3.1.1.9 and earlier, respectively), as well as VB-Audio Matrix and Matrix Coconut (versions ending in 1.0.2.2 and 2.0.2.2 and earlier, respectively), contain a vulnerability in their virtual audio drivers (vbvoicemeetervaio64.sys, vbmatrixvaio64.sys, vbaudio_vmauxvaio.sys, vbaudio_vmvaio.sys, and vbaudio_vmvaio3*.sys). The drivers map non-paged pool memory into user space via MmMapLockedPagesSpecifyCache using UserMode access without proper exception handling. If the mapping fails, such as when a process has exhausted available virtual address space, MmMapLockedPagesSpecifyCache raises an exception that is not caught, causing a kernel crash (BSoD), typically SYSTEM_SERVICE_EXCEPTION with STATUS_NO_MEMORY. This flaw allows a local unprivileged user to trigger a denial-of-service on affected Windows systems.

Vulnerability from github – Published: 2022-08-31 21:25 – Updated: 2024-09-30 20:26

Summary
Denial of service due to incorrect application of event authorization rules
Details

Impact

The Matrix specification specifies a list of event authorization rules which must be checked when determining if an event should be accepted into a room.

In versions of Synapse up to and including v1.61, some of these rules are not correctly applied. An attacker could craft events which would be accepted by Synapse but not a spec-conformant server, potentially causing divergence in the room state between servers.

Patches

Administrators of homeservers with federation enabled are advised to upgrade to v1.62.0 or higher.

VLAI
Summary
matrix-sdk-base denial of service via custom m.room.join_rules event values
Details

The matrix-sdk-base crate is unable to handle responses that include custom m.room.join_rules values due to a serialization bug.

This can be exploited to cause a denial-of-service condition, if a user is invited to a room with non-standard join rules, the crate's sync process will stall, preventing further processing for all rooms.

Patches

The issue is fixed in matrix-sdk-base 0.16.0.

Workarounds

Users can leave affected rooms on another client to mitigate the issue.

References

The issue was fixed in https://github.com/matrix-org/matrix-rust-sdk/pull/5924.

Vulnerability from github – Published: 2022-05-13 01:46 – Updated: 2024-02-22 22:24
VLAI
Summary
Improper Handling of Exceptional Conditions in Apache Tomcat
Details

The error page mechanism of the Java Servlet Specification requires that, when an error occurs and an error page is configured for the error that occurred, the original request and response are forwarded to the error page. This means that the request is presented to the error page with the original HTTP method. If the error page is a static file, expected behaviour is to serve content of the file as if processing a GET request, regardless of the actual HTTP method. The Default Servlet in Apache Tomcat 9.0.0.M1 to 9.0.0.M20, 8.5.0 to 8.5.14, 8.0.0.RC1 to 8.0.43 and 7.0.0 to 7.0.77 did not do this. Depending on the original request this could lead to unexpected and undesirable results for static error pages including, if the DefaultServlet is configured to permit writes, the replacement or removal of the custom error page. Notes for other user provided error pages: (1) Unless explicitly coded otherwise, JSPs ignore the HTTP method. JSPs used as error pages must must ensure that they handle any error dispatch as a GET request, regardless of the actual method. (2) By default, the response generated by a Servlet does depend on the HTTP method. Custom Servlets used as error pages must ensure that they handle any error dispatch as a GET request, regardless of the actual method.

Details

An Improper Handling of Exceptional Conditions vulnerability in Juniper Networks Junos OS and Junos OS Evolved allows an attacker to inject a specific BGP update, causing the routing protocol daemon (RPD) to crash and restart, leading to a Denial of Service (DoS). Continued receipt and processing of the BGP update will create a sustained Denial of Service (DoS) condition. This issue affects very specific versions of Juniper Networks Junos OS: 19.3R3-S2; 19.4R3-S3; 20.2 versions 20.2R2-S3 and later, prior to 20.2R3-S2; 20.3 versions 20.3R2 and later, prior to 20.3R3; 20.4 versions 20.4R2 and later, prior to 20.4R3; 21.1 versions prior to 21.1R2. Juniper Networks Junos OS 20.1 is not affected by this issue. This issue also affects Juniper Networks Junos OS Evolved: All versions prior to 20.4R2-S3-EVO, 20.4R3-EVO; 21.1-EVO versions prior to 21.1R2-EVO; 21.2-EVO versions prior to 21.2R2-EVO.

Summary
Improper Handling of Exceptional Conditions in detect-character-encoding
Details

Impact

In detect-character-encoding v0.6.0 and earlier, data matching no charset causes the Node.js process to crash.

Patches

The problem has been patched in detect-character-encoding v0.7.0.

CVSS score

CVSS:3.1/AV:N/AC:L/PR:N/UI:N/S:U/C:N/I:N/A:H/RL:O/RC:C

Base Score: 7.5 (High) Temporal Score: 7.2 (High)

Since detect-character-encoding is a library, the scoring is based on the “reasonable worst-case implementation scenario”, namely, accepting data from untrusted sources over a network and passing it directly to detect-character-encoding. Depending on your specific implementation, the vulnerability’s severity in your program may be different.

Proof of concept

const express = require("express");
const bodyParser = require("body-parser");
const detectCharacterEncoding = require("detect-character-encoding");

const app = express();

app.use(bodyParser.raw());

app.post("/", (req, res) => {
  const charsetMatch = detectCharacterEncoding(req.body);

  res.end(charsetMatch.encoding);
});

app.listen(3000);

printf "\xAA" | curl --request POST --header "Content-Type: application/octet-stream" --data-binary @- http://localhost:3000 crashes the server.
