Vulnerability from github – Published: 2026-04-08 00:30 – Updated: 2026-05-12 15:31
VLAI
Details

Issue summary: When a delta CRL that contains a Delta CRL Indicator extension is processed a NULL pointer dereference might happen if the required CRL Number extension is missing.

Impact summary: A NULL pointer dereference can trigger a crash which leads to a Denial of Service for an application.

When CRL processing and delta CRL processing is enabled during X.509 certificate verification, the delta CRL processing does not check whether the CRL Number extension is NULL before dereferencing it. When a malformed delta CRL file is being processed, this parameter can be NULL, causing a NULL pointer dereference.

Exploiting this issue requires the X509_V_FLAG_USE_DELTAS flag to be enabled in the verification context, the certificate being verified to contain a freshestCRL extension or the base CRL to have the EXFLAG_FRESHEST flag set, and an attacker to provide a malformed CRL to an application that processes it.

The vulnerability is limited to Denial of Service and cannot be escalated to achieve code execution or memory disclosure. For that reason the issue was assessed as Low severity according to our Security Policy.

The FIPS modules in 3.6, 3.5, 3.4, 3.3 and 3.0 are not affected by this issue, as the affected code is outside the OpenSSL FIPS module boundary.

net/smc: fix lacks of icsk_syn_mss with IPPROTO_SMC

This patch add a toy implementation that performs a simple return to prevent such panic. This is because MSS can be set in sock_create_kern or smc_setsockopt, similar to how it's done in AF_SMC. However, for AF_SMC, there is currently no way to synchronize MSS within __sys_connect_file. This toy implementation lays the groundwork for us to support such feature for IPPROTO_SMC in the future.

Vulnerability from github – Published: 2025-10-22 18:30 – Updated: 2025-10-22 18:30
VLAI
Details

In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved:

drm/msm/mdp5: Return error code in mdp5_pipe_release when deadlock is detected

mdp5_get_global_state runs the risk of hitting a -EDEADLK when acquiring the modeset lock, but currently mdp5_pipe_release doesn't check for if an error is returned. Because of this, there is a possibility of mdp5_pipe_release hitting a NULL dereference error.

To avoid this, let's have mdp5_pipe_release check if mdp5_get_global_state returns an error and propogate that error.

Changes since v1: - Separated declaration and initialization of *new_state to avoid compiler warning - Fixed some spelling mistakes in commit message

Changes since v2: - Return 0 in case where hwpipe is NULL as this is considered normal behavior - Added 2nd patch in series to fix a similar NULL dereference issue in mdp5_mixer_release

Patchwork: https://patchwork.freedesktop.org/patch/485179/

Details

In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved:

rtc: pl031: fix rtc features null pointer dereference

When there is no interrupt line, rtc alarm feature is disabled.

The clearing of the alarm feature bit was being done prior to allocations of ldata->rtc device, resulting in a null pointer dereference.

Clear RTC_FEATURE_ALARM after the rtc device is allocated.

Details

In OpenSSL 1.1.0 before 1.1.0d, if a malicious server supplies bad parameters for a DHE or ECDHE key exchange then this can result in the client attempting to dereference a NULL pointer leading to a client crash. This could be exploited in a Denial of Service attack.

Mitigation MIT-56
Implementation

For any pointers that could have been modified or provided from a function that can return NULL, check the pointer for NULL before use. When working with a multithreaded or otherwise asynchronous environment, ensure that proper locking APIs are used to lock before the check, and unlock when it has finished [REF-1484].

Mitigation
Requirements

Select a programming language that is not susceptible to these issues.

Mitigation
Implementation

Check the results of all functions that return a value and verify that the value is non-null before acting upon it.

Mitigation
Architecture and Design

Identify all variables and data stores that receive information from external sources, and apply input validation to make sure that they are only initialized to expected values.

Mitigation
Implementation

Explicitly initialize all variables and other data stores, either during declaration or just before the first usage.
