Title
Buffer Overflow in Totolink EX1200L router
Summary
Totolink EX1200L router is vulnerable to Buffer Overflow in the login functionality in cgi-bin/cstecgi.cgi endpoint. This vulnerability could be exploited to cause the program to crash and to execute code remotely. This allows the attacker to perform actions as root including reading and editing data, as well as bricking the router.
Because vendor contact attempts were unsuccessful, the vulnerability has only been confirmed in version 9.3.5u.6146_B20201023 but may also affect other versions.

Title
microtar 0.1.0 Stack-Based Buffer Overflow via raw_to_header()
Summary
microtar through 0.1.0 contains a stack-based buffer overflow vulnerability in the raw_to_header() function in src/microtar.c that allows attackers to corrupt adjacent stack memory by supplying a crafted TAR archive with non-null-terminated name or linkname fields. The function uses strcpy() to copy 100-byte ustar format fields that lack null terminators, causing writes of up to 355 bytes into a 100-byte destination buffer when mtar_open(), mtar_find(), or mtar_read_header() process attacker-supplied TAR archives.

Title
arduino-esp32: Stack buffer overflow in WebServer multipart boundary parsing leads to remote crash potential RCE
Summary
arduino-esp32 is an Arduino core for the ESP32, ESP32-S2, ESP32-S3, ESP32-C3, ESP32-C6 and ESP32-H2 microcontrollers. Prior to 3.3.8, the WebServer multipart form parser in arduino-esp32 allocates a Variable Length Array (VLA) on the stack whose size is derived from an attacker-controlled HTTP header field (Content-Type: multipart/form-data; boundary=...) without enforcing any length limit. Sending a boundary string longer than ~8000 characters overflows the 8192-byte task stack of the loopTask, causing a crash and potential remote code execution. This vulnerability is fixed in 3.3.8.

This vulnerability is fixed in 3.3.8."

Title
ImageMagick: Stack buffer overflow in XTileImage
Summary
ImageMagick is free and open-source software used for editing and manipulating digital images. Prior to 7.1.2-21 and 6.9.13-46, a malicious MIFF file could trigger an overflow when a user opens it in the display tool and right-clicks a tile to invoke the Load / Update menu item. This vulnerability is fixed in 7.1.2-21 and 6.9.13-46.
Severity

Mitigation MIT-10
Operation
Build and Compilation
Strategy: Environment Hardening
- Use automatic buffer overflow detection mechanisms that are offered by certain compilers or compiler extensions. Examples include: the Microsoft Visual Studio /GS flag, Fedora/Red Hat FORTIFY_SOURCE GCC flag, StackGuard, and ProPolice, which provide various mechanisms including canary-based detection and range/index checking.
- D3-SFCV (Stack Frame Canary Validation) from D3FEND [REF-1334] discusses canary-based detection in detail.
Mitigation
Architecture and Design
Use an abstraction library to abstract away risky APIs. Not a complete solution.
Mitigation
Implementation
Implement and perform bounds checking on input.
Mitigation
Implementation
Do not use dangerous functions such as gets. Use safer, equivalent functions which check for boundary errors.
Mitigation MIT-11
Operation
Build and Compilation
Strategy: Environment Hardening
- Run or compile the software using features or extensions that randomly arrange the positions of a program's executable and libraries in memory. Because this makes the addresses unpredictable, it can prevent an attacker from reliably jumping to exploitable code.
- Examples include Address Space Layout Randomization (ASLR) [REF-58] [REF-60] and Position-Independent Executables (PIE) [REF-64]. Imported modules may be similarly realigned if their default memory addresses conflict with other modules, in a process known as "rebasing" (for Windows) and "prelinking" (for Linux) [REF-1332] using randomly generated addresses. ASLR for libraries cannot be used in conjunction with prelink since it would require relocating the libraries at run-time, defeating the whole purpose of prelinking.
- For more information on these techniques see D3-SAOR (Segment Address Offset Randomization) from D3FEND [REF-1335].
