    Title
Apache Impala: Impala Executor Webserver Auth Bypass
    Summary
Incorrect implementation of JWT/OAuth authentication in Impala executors in Apache Impala versions up to and including 4.5.2 which allows attacked to access resources served by the executor's webserver when that webserver is configured to accept JWT/OAuth tokens.  Bearer token (JWT) signatures are not validated resulting in the webserver accepting any valid JWT. Users are recommended to either disable JWT/OAuth auth for Impala executors or upgrade to version 4.5.3, which fixes this issue.

    CVE-2026-90466 (GCVE-0-2026-90466)

    Vulnerability from nvd – Published: 2026-10-07 08:47 – Updated: 2026-10-07 18:46
    VLAI
    Title
Apache Impala: Path traversal executes JARs outside trusted paths
    Summary
Path traversal of 'trusted_jar_paths' in Impala 4.5.2 allows an attacker-controlled JAR to be loaded via a relative path where the prefix matches a path specified in 'trusted_jar_paths'. The startup flag 'trusted_jar_paths' references URIs for loading files from local or remote filesystems. Path traversal can't override the schema, but can result in loading a JAR that has been uploaded to a different location in that filesystem via Impala DDLs such as CREATE DATA SOURCE and CREATE TABLE. Path traversal can only be used if a trusted path exists, so this attack requires 'trusted_jar_paths' have a non-empty value configured by the Impala admin. Users are recommended to upgrade to version 4.5.3, which fixes this issue.

    Title
Apache Impala: Secrets Exfiltration via SSRF
    Summary
Server side request forgery in Apache Impala versions 4.4.x and 4.5.x.  Authenticated Impala users with permissions to execute the ai_generate_text() function can exfiltrate secrets provided by the credential providers configured in the `hadoop.security.credential.provider.path` property of `core-site.xml`. The secret's key must be known to the user.

    Title
Apache Impala: Avro Schema URL Server-Side Request Forgery
    Summary
Specifying tblproperties('avro.schema.url'=' http://...' ) or with a 'file:///' URI on a table in Impala 2.0.0 to 4.5.1 on all platforms allows an attacker to trigger a GET request to internal endpoints they may not have access to but that Impala does and the response my be exposed via parsing error messages. Users are recommended to upgrade to version 4.5.2, which fixes this issue.

    CVE-2021-28131 (GCVE-0-2021-28131)

    Vulnerability from nvd – Published: 2021-07-22 10:05 – Updated: 2024-08-03 21:33
    VLAI
    Title
    Impala logs contain secrets
    Summary
Impala sessions use a 16 byte secret to verify that the session is not being hijacked by another user. However, these secrets appear in the Impala logs, therefore Impala users with access to the logs can use another authenticated user's sessions with specially constructed requests. This means the attacker is able to execute statements for which they don't have the necessary privileges otherwise. Impala deployments with Apache Sentry or Apache Ranger authorization enabled may be vulnerable to privilege escalation if an authenticated attacker is able to hijack a session or query from another authenticated user with privileges not assigned to the attacker. Impala deployments with audit logging enabled may be vulnerable to incorrect audit logging as a user could undertake actions that were logged under the name of a different authenticated user. Constructing an attack requires a high degree of technical sophistication and access to the Impala system as an authenticated user. Mitigation: If an Impala deployment uses Apache Sentry, Apache Ranger or audit logging, then users should upgrade to a version of Impala with the fix for IMPALA-10600. The Impala 4.0 release includes this fix. This hides session secrets from the logs to eliminate the risk of any attack using this mechanism. In lieu of an upgrade, restricting access to logs that expose secrets will reduce the risk of an attack. Restricting access to the Impala deployment to trusted users will also reduce the risk of an attack. Log redaction techniques can be used to redact secrets from the logs.

    CVE-2018-11792 (GCVE-0-2018-11792)

    Vulnerability from nvd – Published: 2018-10-24 20:00 – Updated: 2024-09-16 19:52
    VLAI
    Summary
In Apache Impala before 3.0.1, ALTER TABLE/VIEW RENAME required ALTER on the old table. This may pose a potential security risk, such as having ALTER on a table and ALL on a particular database allows a user to move the table to a database with ALL, which will automatically grant that user with ALL privilege on that table due to the privilege inherited from the database.

    CVE-2017-9792 (GCVE-0-2017-9792)

    Vulnerability from nvd – Published: 2017-10-03 01:00 – Updated: 2024-09-17 04:24
    VLAI
    Summary
In Apache Impala (incubating) before 2.10.0, a malicious user with "ALTER" permissions on an Impala table can access any other Kudu table data by altering the table properties to make it "external" and then changing the underlying table mapping to point to other Kudu tables. This violates and works around the authorization requirement that creating a Kudu external table via Impala requires an "ALL" privilege at the server scope. This privilege requirement for "CREATE" commands is enforced to precisely avoid this scenario where a malicious user can change the underlying Kudu table mapping. The fix is to enforce the same privilege requirement for "ALTER" commands that would make existing non-external Kudu tables external.

This violates and works around the authorization requirement that creating a Kudu external table via Impala requires an \"ALL\" privilege at the server scope. This privilege requirement for \"CREATE\" commands is enforced to precisely avoid this scenario where a malicious user can change the underlying Kudu table mapping. The fix is to enforce the same privilege requirement for \"ALTER\" commands that would make existing non-external Kudu tables external."

    CVE-2017-5652 (GCVE-0-2017-5652)

    Vulnerability from nvd – Published: 2017-07-10 20:00 – Updated: 2024-09-16 16:42
    VLAI
    Summary
During a routine security analysis, it was found that one of the ports in Apache Impala (incubating) 2.7.0 to 2.8.0 sent data in plaintext even when the cluster was configured to use TLS. The port in question was used by the StatestoreSubscriber class which did not use the appropriate secure Thrift transport when TLS was turned on. It was therefore possible for an adversary, with access to the network, to eavesdrop on the packets going to and coming from that port and view the data in plaintext.

    Summary
It was noticed that a malicious process impersonating an Impala daemon in Apache Impala (incubating) 2.7.0 to 2.8.0 could cause Impala daemons to skip authentication checks when Kerberos is enabled (but TLS is not). If the malicious server responds with 'COMPLETE' before the SASL handshake has completed, the client will consider the handshake as completed even though no exchange of credentials has happened.

    Vulnerability from cvelistv5 – Published: 2021-07-22 10:05 – Updated: 2024-08-03 21:33

    Vulnerability from cvelistv5 – Published: 2018-10-24 20:00 – Updated: 2024-09-16 19:52
    VLAI

    Vulnerability from cvelistv5 – Published: 2017-10-03 01:00 – Updated: 2024-09-17 04:24
    VLAI

    Vulnerability from cvelistv5 – Published: 2017-07-10 20:00 – Updated: 2024-09-16 16:42

    CVE-2017-5640 (GCVE-0-2017-5640)

    Vulnerability from cvelistv5 – Published: 2017-07-10 20:00 – Updated: 2024-09-16 22:50
    VLAI
    Severity
