Title
Account Lock Bypass via Magic Link or Pass Key Authentication in WSO2 Identity Server Allows Unauthorized Access
Summary
Due to a lack of user account state validation during authentication, locked user accounts can be successfully authenticated using Magic Link or Pass Key methods. This bypasses the intended security control that should prevent access to accounts that have been locked. This vulnerability may allow unauthorized access to applications and sensitive data associated with accounts that should have been restricted via the account lock mechanism. It also undermines the effectiveness of the account lock mechanism intended to prevent further login attempts.

Title
OpenSupports 4.11.0 — Insecure Direct Object Reference in supervised list
Summary
OpenSupports exposes an endpoint that allows the list of 'supervised users' for any account to be edited, but it does not validate whether the actor is the owner of that list. A Level 1 staff member can modify the supervision relationship of a third party (the target user), who can then view the tickets of the added 'supervised' users. This breaks the authorization model and filters the content of other users' tickets. This issue affects OpenSupports: 4.11.0.

Title
Local Privilege Escalation in Sparkle Autoupdate Daemon
Summary
The Sparkle framework includes a helper tool Autoupdate. Due to lack of authentication of connecting clients a local unprivileged attacker can request installation of crafted malicious PKG file by racing to connect to the daemon when other app spawns it as root. This results in local privilege escalation to root privileges. It is worth noting that it is possible to spawn Autopudate manually via Installer XPC service. However this requires the victim to enter credentials upon system authorization dialog creation that can be modified by the attacker. This issue was fixed in version 2.7.2

Title
TCC Bypass via Downloader XPC Service in Sparkle
Summary
The Sparkle framework includes an XPC service Downloader.xpc, by default this service is private to the application its bundled with. A local unprivileged attacker can register this XPC service globally which will inherit TCC permissions of the application. Lack of validation of connecting client allows the attacker to copy TCC-protected files to an arbitrary location. Access to other resources beyond granted-permissions requires user interaction with a system prompt asking for permission. This issue was fixed in version 2.7.2

Title
Block Bad Bots and Stop Bad Bots Crawlers and Spiders and Anti Spam Protection <= 11.58 - Insufficient Authorization to Unauthenticated Blocklist Bypass
Summary
The Block Bad Bots and Stop Bad Bots Crawlers and Spiders and Anti Spam Protection plugin for WordPress is vulnerable to unauthorized access of data due to an insufficient capability check on the 'stopbadbots_check_wordpress_logged_in_cookie' function in all versions up to, and including, 11.58. This makes it possible for unauthenticated attackers to bypass blocklists, rate limits, and other plugin functionality.

Mitigation
Architecture and Design
  • Divide the product into anonymous, normal, privileged, and administrative areas. Reduce the attack surface by carefully mapping roles with data and functionality. Use role-based access control (RBAC) [REF-229] to enforce the roles at the appropriate boundaries.
  • Note that this approach may not protect against horizontal authorization, i.e., it will not protect a user from attacking others with the same role.
Mitigation
Architecture and Design

Ensure that access control checks are performed related to the business logic. These checks may be different than the access control checks that are applied to more generic resources such as files, connections, processes, memory, and database records. For example, a database may restrict access for medical records to a specific database user, but each record might only be intended to be accessible to the patient and the patient's doctor [REF-7].

Mitigation MIT-4.4
Architecture and Design

Strategy: Libraries or Frameworks

  • Use a vetted library or framework that does not allow this weakness to occur or provides constructs that make this weakness easier to avoid.
  • For example, consider using authorization frameworks such as the JAAS Authorization Framework [REF-233] and the OWASP ESAPI Access Control feature [REF-45].
Mitigation
Architecture and Design
  • For web applications, make sure that the access control mechanism is enforced correctly at the server side on every page. Users should not be able to access any unauthorized functionality or information by simply requesting direct access to that page.
  • One way to do this is to ensure that all pages containing sensitive information are not cached, and that all such pages restrict access to requests that are accompanied by an active and authenticated session token associated with a user who has the required permissions to access that page.
Mitigation
System Configuration Installation

Use the access control capabilities of your operating system and server environment and define your access control lists accordingly. Use a "default deny" policy when defining these ACLs.
