Summary
Reachable Assertion in Tensorflow
Details

Impact

When decoding a tensor from protobuf, a TensorFlow process can encounter cases where a CHECK assertion is invalidated based on user controlled arguments, if the tensors have an invalid dtype and 0 elements or an invalid shape. This allows attackers to cause denial of services in TensorFlow processes.

Patches

We have patched the issue in GitHub commit 5b491cd5e41ad63735161cec9c2a568172c8b6a3.

The fix will be included in TensorFlow 2.8.0. We will also cherrypick this commit on TensorFlow 2.7.1, TensorFlow 2.6.3, and TensorFlow 2.5.3, as these are also affected and still in supported range.

For more information

Please consult our security guide for more information regarding the security model and how to contact us with issues and questions.

Vulnerability from github – Published: 2022-09-16 22:28 – Updated: 2022-09-19 19:37
VLAI
Summary
TensorFlow vulnerable to `CHECK` fail in `MaxPool`
Details

Impact

When MaxPool receives a window size input array ksize with dimensions greater than its input tensor input, the GPU kernel gives a CHECK fail that can be used to trigger a denial of service attack.

import tensorflow as tf
import numpy as np

input = np.ones([1, 1, 1, 1])
ksize = [1, 1, 2, 2]
strides = [1, 1, 1, 1]
padding = 'VALID'
data_format = 'NCHW'

tf.raw_ops.MaxPool(input=input, ksize=ksize, strides=strides, padding=padding, data_format=data_format)

Patches

We have patched the issue in GitHub commit 32d7bd3defd134f21a4e344c8dfd40099aaf6b18.

The fix will be included in TensorFlow 2.10.0. We will also cherrypick this commit on TensorFlow 2.9.1, TensorFlow 2.8.1, and TensorFlow 2.7.2, as these are also affected and still in supported range.

Vulnerability from github – Published: 2024-05-20 12:30 – Updated: 2025-09-23 18:30
VLAI
Details

In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved:

mm/hugetlb: fix missing hugetlb_lock for resv uncharge

There is a recent report on UFFDIO_COPY over hugetlb:

https://lore.kernel.org/all/000000000000ee06de0616177560@google.com/

350: lockdep_assert_held(&hugetlb_lock);

Should be an issue in hugetlb but triggered in an userfault context, where it goes into the unlikely path where two threads modifying the resv map together. Mike has a fix in that path for resv uncharge but it looks like the locking criteria was overlooked: hugetlb_cgroup_uncharge_folio_rsvd() will update the cgroup pointer, so it requires to be called with the lock held.

Details

In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved:

fs: hfsplus: remove WARN_ON() from hfsplus_cat_{read,write}_inode()

syzbot is hitting WARN_ON() in hfsplus_cat_{read,write}_inode(), for crafted filesystem image can contain bogus length. There conditions are not kernel bugs that can justify kernel to panic.

Vulnerability from github – Published: 2026-08-31 00:30 – Updated: 2026-08-31 00:30
VLAI
Details

A weakness has been identified in Open5GS up to 2.7.7. The affected element is the function smf_nudm_sdm_handle_get of the file src/smf/nudm-handler.c of the component SMF. Executing a manipulation of the argument preemptCap can lead to reachable assertion. The attack may be launched remotely. Upgrading to version 2.8.0 is sufficient to fix this issue. This patch is called 4554405f29bffd7562abedbee63484825bd90cd5. You should upgrade the affected component.
