Details

In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved:

scsi: csiostor: Fix dereference of null pointer rn

The error exit path when rn is NULL ends up deferencing the null pointer rn via the use of the macro CSIO_INC_STATS. Fix this by adding a new error return path label after the use of the macro to avoid the deference.

Vulnerability from github – Published: 2025-03-12 00:31 – Updated: 2025-03-12 00:31

Details

In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved:

scsi: ibmvfc: Store vhost pointer during subcrq allocation

Currently the back pointer from a queue to the vhost adapter isn't set until after subcrq interrupt registration. The value is available when a queue is first allocated and can/should be also set for primary and async queues as well as subcrqs.

This fixes a crash observed during kexec/kdump on Power 9 with legacy XICS interrupt controller where a pending subcrq interrupt from the previous kernel can be replayed immediately upon IRQ registration resulting in dereference of a garbage backpointer in ibmvfc_interrupt_scsi().

In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved:

NFSv4: Prevent NULL-pointer dereference in nfs42_complete_copies()

On the node of an NFS client, some files saved in the mountpoint of the NFS server were copied to another location of the same NFS server. Accidentally, the nfs42_complete_copies() got a NULL-pointer dereference crash with the following syslog:

Vulnerability from github – Published: 2025-05-01 15:31 – Updated: 2025-11-04 18:31
VLAI
Details

In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved:

ata: pata_pxa: Fix potential NULL pointer dereference in pxa_ata_probe()

devm_ioremap() returns NULL on error. Currently, pxa_ata_probe() does not check for this case, which can result in a NULL pointer dereference.

Add NULL check after devm_ioremap() to prevent this issue.

Vulnerability from github – Published: 2025-03-27 18:31 – Updated: 2025-04-15 15:30
VLAI
Details

In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved:

efi: fix potential NULL deref in efi_mem_reserve_persistent

When iterating on a linked list, a result of memremap is dereferenced without checking it for NULL.

This patch adds a check that falls back on allocating a new page in case memremap doesn't succeed.

Found by Linux Verification Center (linuxtesting.org) with SVACE.

[ardb: return -ENOMEM instead of breaking out of the loop]

Details

The php_wddx_pop_element function in ext/wddx/wddx.c in PHP before 5.6.25 and 7.x before 7.0.10 allows remote attackers to cause a denial of service (NULL pointer dereference and application crash) or possibly have unspecified other impact via an invalid base64 binary value, as demonstrated by a wddx_deserialize call that mishandles a binary element in a wddxPacket XML document.

Vulnerability from github – Published: 2025-07-25 18:30 – Updated: 2025-11-19 18:31
VLAI
Details

In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved:

wifi: mt76: mt7925: prevent NULL pointer dereference in mt7925_sta_set_decap_offload()

Add a NULL check for msta->vif before accessing its members to prevent a kernel panic in AP mode deployment. This also fix the issue reported in [1].

The crash occurs when this function is triggered before the station is fully initialized. The call trace shows a page fault at mt7925_sta_set_decap_offload() due to accessing resources when msta->vif is NULL.

Fix this by adding an early return if msta->vif is NULL and also check wcid.sta is ready. This ensures we only proceed with decap offload configuration when the station's state is properly initialized.

Mitigation MIT-56
Implementation

For any pointers that could have been modified or provided from a function that can return NULL, check the pointer for NULL before use. When working with a multithreaded or otherwise asynchronous environment, ensure that proper locking APIs are used to lock before the check, and unlock when it has finished [REF-1484].

Mitigation
Requirements

Select a programming language that is not susceptible to these issues.

Mitigation
Implementation

Check the results of all functions that return a value and verify that the value is non-null before acting upon it.

Mitigation
Architecture and Design

Identify all variables and data stores that receive information from external sources, and apply input validation to make sure that they are only initialized to expected values.

Mitigation
Implementation

Explicitly initialize all variables and other data stores, either during declaration or just before the first usage.

No CAPEC attack patterns related to this CWE.
