In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved:

net/sched: ets: use old 'nbands' while purging unused classes

Shuang reported sch_ets test-case [1] crashing in ets_class_qlen_notify() after recent changes from Lion [2]. The problem is: in ets_qdisc_change() we purge unused DWRR queues; the value of 'q->nbands' is the new one, and the cleanup should be done with the old one. The problem is here since my first attempts to fix ets_qdisc_change(), but it surfaced again after the recent qdisc len accounting fixes. Fix it purging idle DWRR queues before assigning a new value of 'q->nbands', so that all purge operations find a consistent configuration:

  • old 'q->nbands' because it's needed by ets_class_find()
  • old 'q->nstrict' because it's needed by ets_class_is_strict()

In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved:

drm/i915/gem: Zero-initialize the eb.vma array in i915_gem_do_execbuffer

Initialize the eb.vma array with values of 0 when the eb structure is first set up. In particular, this sets the eb->vma[i].vma pointers to NULL, simplifying cleanup and getting rid of the bug described below.

During the execution of eb_lookup_vmas(), the eb->vma array is successively filled up with struct eb_vma objects. This process includes calling eb_add_vma(), which might fail; however, even in the event of failure, eb->vma[i].vma is set for the currently processed buffer.

If eb_add_vma() fails, eb_lookup_vmas() returns with an error, which prompts a call to eb_release_vmas() to clean up the mess. Since eb_lookup_vmas() might fail during processing any (possibly not first) buffer, eb_release_vmas() checks whether a buffer's vma is NULL to know at what point did the lookup function fail.

In eb_lookup_vmas(), eb->vma[i].vma is set to NULL if either the helper function eb_lookup_vma() or eb_validate_vma() fails. eb->vma[i+1].vma is set to NULL in case i915_gem_object_userptr_submit_init() fails; the current one needs to be cleaned up by eb_release_vmas() at this point, so the next one is set. If eb_add_vma() fails, neither the current nor the next vma is set to NULL, which is a source of a NULL deref bug described in the issue linked in the Closes tag.

When entering eb_lookup_vmas(), the vma pointers are set to the slab poison value, instead of NULL. This doesn't matter for the actual lookup, since it gets overwritten anyway, however the eb_release_vmas() function only recognizes NULL as the stopping value, hence the pointers are being set to NULL as they go in case of intermediate failure. This patch changes the approach to filling them all with NULL at the start instead, rather than handling that manually during failure.

In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved:

rxrpc: Fix listen() setting the bar too high for the prealloc rings

AF_RXRPC's listen() handler lets you set the backlog up to 32 (if you bump up the sysctl), but whilst the preallocation circular buffers have 32 slots in them, one of them has to be a dead slot because we're using CIRC_CNT().

This means that listen(rxrpc_sock, 32) will cause an oops when the socket is closed because rxrpc_service_prealloc_one() allocated one too many calls and rxrpc_discard_prealloc() won't then be able to get rid of them because it'll think the ring is empty. rxrpc_release_calls_on_socket() then tries to abort them, but oopses because call->peer isn't yet set.

Fix this by setting the maximum backlog to RXRPC_BACKLOG_MAX - 1 to match the ring capacity.

Null pointer dereference in `MatrixDiagPartOp`
Details

Impact

If a user does not provide a valid padding value to tf.raw_ops.MatrixDiagPartOp, then the code triggers a null pointer dereference (if input is empty) or produces invalid behavior, ignoring all values after the first:

  k=tf.ones(2,dtype=tf.int32),
  padding_value=[])

Although this example is given for MatrixDiagPartV2, all versions of the operation are affected.

The implementation reads the first value from a tensor buffer without first checking that the tensor has values to read from.

Patches

We have patched the issue in GitHub commit 482da92095c4d48f8784b1f00dda4f81c28d2988.

The fix will be included in TensorFlow 2.6.0. We will also cherrypick this commit on TensorFlow 2.5.1, TensorFlow 2.4.3, and TensorFlow 2.3.4, as these are also affected and still in supported range.
