Details

In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved:

net: airoha: Move ndesc initialization at end of airoha_qdma_init_tx()

If queue entry list allocation fails in airoha_qdma_init_tx_queue routine, airoha_qdma_cleanup_tx_queue() will trigger a NULL pointer dereference accessing the queue entry array. The issue is due to the early ndesc initialization in airoha_qdma_init_tx_queue(). Fix the issue moving ndesc initialization at end of airoha_qdma_init_tx routine.

Vulnerability from github – Published: 2024-10-21 18:30 – Updated: 2024-11-01 15:31
VLAI
Details

In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved:

gfs2: fix double destroy_workqueue error

When gfs2_fill_super() fails, destroy_workqueue() is called within gfs2_gl_hash_clear(), and the subsequent code path calls destroy_workqueue() on the same work queue again.

This issue can be fixed by setting the work queue pointer to NULL after the first destroy_workqueue() call and checking for a NULL pointer before attempting to destroy the work queue again.

Details

A vulnerability was found in Linux kernel's, versions up to 3.10, implementation of overlayfs. An attacker with local access can create a denial of service situation via NULL pointer dereference in ovl_posix_acl_create function in fs/overlayfs/dir.c. This can allow attackers with ability to create directories on overlayfs to crash the kernel creating a denial of service (DOS).

Mitigation MIT-56
Implementation

For any pointers that could have been modified or provided from a function that can return NULL, check the pointer for NULL before use. When working with a multithreaded or otherwise asynchronous environment, ensure that proper locking APIs are used to lock before the check, and unlock when it has finished [REF-1484].

Mitigation
Requirements

Select a programming language that is not susceptible to these issues.

Mitigation
Implementation

Check the results of all functions that return a value and verify that the value is non-null before acting upon it.

Mitigation
Architecture and Design

Identify all variables and data stores that receive information from external sources, and apply input validation to make sure that they are only initialized to expected values.

Mitigation
Implementation

Explicitly initialize all variables and other data stores, either during declaration or just before the first usage.
