Common Weakness Enumeration

CWE-416

Allowed

Use After Free

Abstraction: Variant · Status: Stable

The product reuses or references memory after it has been freed. At some point afterward, the memory may be allocated again and saved in another pointer, while the original pointer references a location somewhere within the new allocation. Any operations using the original pointer are no longer valid because the memory "belongs" to the code that operates on the new pointer.

9821 vulnerabilities reference this CWE, most recent first.

Details

This vulnerability allows remote attackers to execute arbitrary code on vulnerable installations of Foxit Reader 9.4.0.16811. User interaction is required to exploit this vulnerability in that the target must visit a malicious page or open a malicious file. The specific flaw exists within the XFA CXFA_FFDocView object. The issue results from the lack of validating the existence of an object prior to performing operations on the object. An attacker can leverage this vulnerability to execute code in the context of the current process. Was ZDI-CAN-7777.

Vulnerability from github – Published: 2026-05-01 15:30 – Updated: 2026-05-07 21:30

Details

In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved:

net: macb: fix clk handling on PCI glue driver removal

platform_device_unregister() may still want to use the registered clks during runtime resume callback.

Note that there is a commit d82d5303c4c5 ("net: macb: fix use after free on rmmod") that addressed the similar problem of clk vs platform device unregistration but just moved the bug to another place.

Save the pointers to clks into local variables for reuse after platform device is unregistered.

Vulnerability from github – Published: 2024-11-05 18:32 – Updated: 2026-05-12 15:30
VLAI
Details

In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved:

net: sched: fix use-after-free in taprio_change()

In 'taprio_change()', 'admin' pointer may become dangling due to sched switch / removal caused by 'advance_sched()', and critical section protected by 'q->current_entry_lock' is too small to prevent from such a scenario (which causes use-after-free detected by KASAN). Fix this by prefer 'rcu_replace_pointer()' over 'rcu_assign_pointer()' to update 'admin' immediately before an attempt to schedule freeing.

After JavaScript resetting the form, the synchronization process lacks re-entry protection and object lifecycle verification, resulting in the failure of the control pointer during the traversal process. After the pointer fails, it still continues to dereference, causing the application to crash.

Details

NVIDIA vGPU software contains a vulnerability in the Virtual GPU Manager (nvidia.ko), where it may lead to a use-after-free, which in turn may cause denial of service. This attack is complex to carry out because the attacker needs to have control over freeing some host side resources out of sequence, which requires elevated privileges.

GHSA-X88Q-X2R7-VG3G

Vulnerability from github – Published: 2026-05-13 18:30 – Updated: 2026-05-13 18:30
VLAI
Details

NGINX Plus and NGINX Open Source have a vulnerability in the ngx_http_ssl_module module when the ssl_verify_client directive is set to "on" or "optional," and the ssl_ocsp directive is set to "on" or the leaf parameters are configured with a resolver. With this configuration, an unauthenticated attacker can send requests along with conditions beyond its control that may cause a heap-use-after-free error in the NGINX worker process. This vulnerability may result in limited modification of data or the NGINX worker process restarting.

Note: Software versions which have reached End of Technical Support (EoTS) are not evaluated.

Details

In display, there is a possible memory corruption due to use after free. This could lead to local escalation of privilege if a malicious actor has already obtained the System privilege. User interaction is not needed for exploitation. Patch ID: ALPS10184061; Issue ID: MSV-4712.

Mitigation
Architecture and Design

Strategy: Language Selection

Choose a language that provides automatic memory management.

Mitigation
Implementation

Strategy: Attack Surface Reduction

When freeing pointers, be sure to set them to NULL once they are freed. However, the utilization of multiple or complex data structures may lower the usefulness of this strategy.
