CWE-416
AllowedUse After Free
Abstraction: Variant · Status: Stable
The product reuses or references memory after it has been freed. At some point afterward, the memory may be allocated again and saved in another pointer, while the original pointer references a location somewhere within the new allocation. Any operations using the original pointer are no longer valid because the memory "belongs" to the code that operates on the new pointer.
11895 vulnerabilities reference this CWE, most recent first.

GHSA-89MF-4CG3-W93V
Vulnerability from github – Published: 2024-10-09 15:32 – Updated: 2025-12-07 00:30In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved:
scsi: pm80xx: Set phy->enable_completion only when we wait for it
pm8001_phy_control() populates the enable_completion pointer with a stack address, sends a PHY_LINK_RESET / PHY_HARD_RESET, waits 300 ms, and returns. The problem arises when a phy control response comes late. After 300 ms the pm8001_phy_control() function returns and the passed enable_completion stack address is no longer valid. Late phy control response invokes complete() on a dangling enable_completion pointer which leads to a kernel crash.

Vulnerability from github – Published: 2022-05-13 01:31 – Updated: 2022-05-13 01:31This vulnerability allows remote attackers to execute arbitrary code on vulnerable installations of Foxit Reader 9.0.1.1049. User interaction is required to exploit this vulnerability in that the target must visit a malicious page or open a malicious file. The specific flaw exists within the handling of Format actions of TextBox objects. The issue results from the lack of validating the existence of an object prior to performing operations on the object. An attacker can leverage this vulnerability to execute code under the context of the current process. Was ZDI-CAN-5571.

Vulnerability from github – Published: 2025-09-18 15:30 – Updated: 2025-12-12 21:31In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved:
mlx5: fix possible ptp queue fifo use-after-free
Fifo indexes are not checked during pop operations and it leads to potential use-after-free when poping from empty queue. Such case was possible during re-sync action. WARN_ON_ONCE covers future cases.
There were out-of-order cqe spotted which lead to drain of the queue and use-after-free because of lack of fifo pointers check. Special check and counter are added to avoid resync operation if SKB could not exist in the fifo because of OOO cqe (skb_id must be between consumer and producer index).

GHSA-8C2F-6CRQ-PRR9
Vulnerability from github – Published: 2026-07-19 18:31 – Updated: 2026-10-15 12:30In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved:
wifi: mac80211: capture fast-RX rate before mesh reuses skb->cb
ieee80211_invoke_fast_rx() reads RX status through IEEE80211_SKB_RXCB(skb), which aliases the same skb->cb storage that ieee80211_rx_mesh_data() reuses as IEEE80211_TX_INFO. In the unicast forward path, mesh_data does:
info = IEEE80211_SKB_CB(fwd_skb);
memset(info, 0, sizeof(*info));
on the same skb the caller still names via rx->skb, then either queues the skb for TX (success) or kfree_skb()'s it (no-route) before returning RX_QUEUED. The caller's RX_QUEUED arm then calls sta_stats_encode_rate(status) on memory that is either zeroed (success path) or freed (no-route path). The latter is KASAN slab-use-after-free in ieee80211_prepare_and_rx_handle.
Fix by encoding the rate from status before invoking ieee80211_rx_mesh_data(), so the RX_QUEUED arm consumes a value captured while status was still backed by valid memory.
