Details

A Missing Release of Memory after Effective Lifetime vulnerability in the IKE daemon (iked) of Juniper Networks Junos OS on MX Series with SPC3, and SRX Series allows an administratively adjacent attacker which is able to successfully establish IPsec tunnels to cause a Denial of Service (DoS).

If specific values for the IPsec parameters local-ip, remote-ip, remote ike-id, and traffic selectors are sent from the peer, a memory leak occurs during every IPsec SA rekey which is carried out with a specific message sequence. This will eventually result in an iked process crash and restart.

The iked process memory consumption can be checked using the below command:   user@host> show system processes extensive | grep iked           PID USERNAME   PRI NICE   SIZE   RES   STATE   C TIME WCPU COMMAND           56903 root       31   0     4016M 2543M CPU0   0 2:10 10.50% iked

Original Description

Nokogiri versions before 1.19.3 contain a memory leak in the XSLT Stylesheet transform method when processing Ruby strings containing null bytes. Attackers can exploit this by passing attacker-controlled input with null bytes to transform parameters, causing heap allocations to leak and enabling denial of service against long-running processes.

In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved:

net: usb: lan78xx: Limit packet length to skb->len

Packet length retrieved from descriptor may be larger than the actual socket buffer length. In such case the cloned skb passed up the network stack will leak kernel memory contents.

Additionally prevent integer underflow when size is less than ETH_FCS_LEN.

In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved:

ice: fix memleak in ice_init_tx_topology()

Fix leak of the FW blob (DDP pkg).

Make ice_cfg_tx_topo() const-correct, so ice_init_tx_topology() can avoid copying whole FW blob. Copy just the topology section, and only when needed. Reuse the buffer allocated for the read of the current topology.

This was found by kmemleak, with the following trace for each PF: [] kmemdup_noprof+0x1d/0x50 [] ice_init_ddp_config+0x100/0x220 [ice] [] ice_init_dev+0x6f/0x200 [ice] [] ice_init+0x29/0x560 [ice] [] ice_probe+0x21d/0x310 [ice]

Constify ice_cfg_tx_topo() @buf parameter. This cascades further down to few more functions.

crypto: qat - fix memory leak in RSA

When an RSA key represented in form 2 (as defined in PKCS #1 V2.1) is used, some components of the private key persist even after the TFM is released. Replace the explicit calls to free the buffers in qat_rsa_exit_tfm() with a call to qat_rsa_clear_ctx() which frees all buffers referenced in the TFM context.

A vulnerability in the Remote Access SSL VPN, HTTP management and MUS functionality, of Cisco Secure Firewall Adaptive Security Appliance (ASA) Software and Secure Firewall Threat Defense (FTD) Software could allow an unauthenticated, remote attacker to exhaust device memory resulting in a denial of service (DoS) condition requiring a manual reboot.

This vulnerability is due to trusting user input without validation. An attacker could exploit this vulnerability by sending crafted packets to the Remote Access SSL VPN server. A successful exploit could allow the attacker to cause the device to stop responding, resulting in a DoS condition.

Strategy: Libraries or Frameworks

  • Choose a language or tool that provides automatic memory management, or makes manual memory management less error-prone.
  • For example, glibc in Linux provides protection against free of invalid pointers.
  • When using Xcode to target OS X or iOS, enable automatic reference counting (ARC) [REF-391].
  • To help correctly and consistently manage memory when programming in C++, consider using a smart pointer class such as std::auto_ptr (defined by ISO/IEC ISO/IEC 14882:2003), std::shared_ptr and std::unique_ptr (specified by an upcoming revision of the C++ standard, informally referred to as C++ 1x), or equivalent solutions such as Boost.
