A denial of service vulnerability exists when Microsoft Common Object Runtime Library improperly handles web requests. An attacker who successfully exploited this vulnerability could cause a denial of service against a .NET web application.
A remote unauthenticated attacker could exploit this vulnerability by issuing specially crafted requests to the .NET application.
The update addresses the vulnerability by correcting how the .NET web application handles web requests.

GHSA-2fmv-rv2c-59x7 — Microsoft Security Advisory CVE-2026-70162 - .NET Denial of Service Vulnerability

Affected: NuGet: System.Security.Cryptography.Pkcs

## Executive summary

Microsoft is releasing this security advisory to provide information about a vulnerability in System.Security.Cryptography.Pkcs. This advisory also provides guidance on what developers can do to update their applications to remove this vulnerability.

On Windows, `EnvelopedCms.Decode` can perform quadratic work while processing attacker-supplied CMS or PKCS#7 attributes, causing pre-authentication CPU exhaustion.

## Announcement

Announcement for this issue can be found at https://github.com/dotnet/announcements/issues/454
